Here’s the stunning 12.5″ coral satchel with metallic gold detailing from The Leather Satchel Co. Bang on trend with amazing summer colours it’s no wonder this lovely bag appealed, but find out why I had to return it to Asos.

On first glance it’s probably very obvious why this bag appealed to me. You can’t turn anywhere without seeing shades of orange and coral, and to enhance such a  pretty color with lashings of gold seems like a great way to grab the attention of any girl desperate for the summer to actually begin. And with a pretty gold keyring to match this bag seemed ideal!

I really like these satchel style bags at the moment, and although there are some cheaper alternatives on the high street you can really feel the difference in quality. Whilst the high street bags are flimsy and will likely fall apart in seconds, the Leather Satchel Co bag is sturdy and hard wearing, almost to the point of being inflexible. This is good to a point because I know my contents are safe, but it also severely limits what fits into the bag. My Bobble water bottle for example was impossible to stand upright and seeing as this bag shouldn’t get wet I was fearful that it would leak if I lay the bottle on its side. I certainly couldn’t fit my travel makeup into the front pocket, and when I tried to I found that items would fall out regularly.

Amazingly both of these things didn’t actually deter me; after all it’s a really pretty bag. However it was the quality that really shocked me. I paid £78 for this bag, and yet within a week the gold metallic coating on the buckles and the strap started coming off in small flakes. The underside of the the buckles and the strap both began to fray and feel very soft and weak, and the buckle just generally felt quite uncomfortable on my shoulder. It also wasn’t the most practical size as I couldn’t fit my A4 notepad inside.

I would have expected the fraying and the metallic coat beginning to crack after a few months perhaps, but not within days. I didn’t dare to think what the bag would look like in 2 months time so I thought I had better return it. Thankfully Asos gave me a full refund, but it has put me off buying another bag from The Leather Satchel Co. Perhaps the non-metallic bags are different though, I’m not sure; the coral leather feels much sturdier. I don’t want to risk buying another one though.
