Christmas at The Grill on the Corner, Glasgow

As Mr and Mrs Foodie were otherwise engaged in London, I'm glad to say that I stepped in to attend The Grill On The Corner's Christmas Menu tasting.

Having been given the menu go over before attending, I had plenty of time to make my choice of food. Following much deliberating, I plumped for the following -

Starter: White Onion and Leek Soup, Chive Oil & tortilla wedges (Suitable for vegans)

Main: Sirloin Steak (served with seasonal veg & potatoes)

Dessert: Salted Caramel Chocolate Pot (with Brandy Snap)

The Food

The white onion and leek soup was very tasty and flavoursome, and the perfect starter on a cold, rainy evening. The seasoning was just right and there was no need for any more to be added. I thought the tortilla wedges were a pleasant change to the usual crusty roll. Nice, fluffed up and crispy, perfect for dipping into the soup.

For the main course, there was a slight change to the planned menu. The food would now be the Traditional Christmas option, served family style.

An array of food was presented on the table - there was carved turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and all the trimmings; four types of steak - Irish Fillet, English Sirloin, Argentinian Ribeye and Australian Rump. Sauces available were traditional gravy, and a mushroom and tarragon sauce.

As I had chosen sirloin steak for my original main, I decided to tuck into the four types of steak, with roast potatoes and veg. Being a red meat lover, I particularly enjoyed this part of the meal. All steaks were cooked to my taste, nice and rare. The roasters were lovely and crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. As for the veg, I decided to just go for the carrots, which had a good bite to them.

Thankfully, I saved room for the final course, dessert. I dived in with my trusty spoon, initially just scooping some of the chocolate.

The chocolate was very rich and very dense, lovely. What I wasn't prepared for, was what lay underneath. As I dug deeper into the chocolate pot, I was rewarded with the exquisite taste of a gooey salted caramel pool - absolute bliss. Although very rich, I could easily have finished another.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening, with lovely food. It had been some time since I last visited the restaurant, I'll not be leaving it so long to eat there again.
