The Evolution of a Blog

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

I can’t help but think back to when I first thought about the creation of My Girly Parts. It arose out of the need to have a place to talk about all things girly. You know a place where women could talk freely about:

  • Love
  • Sex
  • Marriage
  • Menstruation
  • Breast Health
  • Motherhood
  • Relationships
  • Puberty through Menopause

However, somewhere along the line, I lost part of my train of thought. Or quite possibly, say that some women didn’t feel comfortable enough commenting on the blog.

Then My Girly Parts started to evolve. I thought about sharing some Social Networking/Bloggy type posts.

And I did just that.

We talked about Non-Niche Vs. Niche; MGP moving to self-host in Looks Like We Made It!;  then Google Reader came out with a post that shocked a LOT of Bloggers and announce their demise and I came up with There’s a New Sheriff in Town and an alternative to Google Reader. Do you remember talking about privacy on the net and how much we reveal about our true self, YOU on the Web.

And what about those WordPress posts about some pretty cool or at least, new to YOU, posts. Disable and Protect What’s Yours, where we learned about to disable that blasted right-click so people couldn’t steal your content. Then we found out there were ways around that one so I scrapped the plugin.

Oh and one of my favorites, as well as several of you, Get The Recognition You Deserve With @YOURNAME! Do you know how many blogs I stumble upon daily that don’t have their @YOURNAME? And I’m talking some BIG bloggers (remember, I’m just small taters). These BIG time Social Networking/Technical Bloggers don’t have their @YOURNAME with their Twitter share button! Amazes me!

Then my three (3) part serious on some of my favorite plugin’s that I’ve been using on both of my blogs:

  • Opinions are like Nipples, Everyone has One
  • Plugin’s Can Be Addicting
  • Mmm.. I’d Like To Take That For A Test Drive

And during that time, something strange happened. I’m not quite sure how it happened, but it did! And I liked it! My Girly Parts had some male commenters!

OMG!

They weren’t afraid to comment on a blog named My Girly Parts! They looked at the “tech” style posts and enjoyed them!

Does this mean they became Subscribers?

I don’t know.

Did they follow My Girly Parts on other social networks (ie., Twitter, Facebook, Google+)?

YES!

Once you BRAND a blog, can it be changed?

Possibly not changed per say but maybe evolve?

What does this mean for the future of My Girly Parts?

Do we continue to talk more about girly things as originally intended?

Do we talk some more about Social Networking, Blogging Tips, and maybe another one of my favorite hobbies….. Gadgets?

Can My Girly Parts be changed to entice more men to stop by, read, and comment?

At this point, I’m not sure which way to go and am relying on YOU, my friends and my readers, on what you would like to see happen.

Can a happy medium be found that will allow both men and women to feel comfortable stopping by My Girly Parts and networking?

I’m listening…………..
