Etude House Play 101 Pencil, HK$68.Since arriving in Hong Kong, my already-minimal make-up routine has taken another turn for the streamlined best. Minimal make-up and au naturale looks are all the rage here and all the attention is tuned in on the eyes. I've noticed that South Korean beauty trends have completely taken hold here (a bonus for me as I love S.Korean culture) and of course that meant I could get on board with beauty again for a bit.
One of my guilty pleasures here is Etude House. The South Korean brand has a few stores here in Hong Kong and a combination of the princess pink storefront and interiors, K-pop artists on their adverts and the overwhelmingly beautiful packaging has me right in there at least once a week. It's a problem.
For the glittering, K-pop look with a twinkle to the eye that is so favoured at the moment, I absolutely adore their Play 101 Pencil. Available in more colours than you could shake a stick (or pencil - hoho) at, I already have my hands on two that I use every time I wear make-up. 06 is a beautiful glittery pale pink. I'd describe it as an icy pink with both shimmer and glitter, which could be a little irritating to sensitive eyes. I wear this in the tear duct area and underneath the eyes for that bright, wide-eyed and innocent look, and it is surprisingly wearable for "everyday" as I often wear it for work when I'm not too sleepy. 04 is equally as shimmery but minus the glitter. It's more of a soft gold shade and it works perfectly to brighten up tired eyes - think of it as the more wearable of these two. I quite like to use 04 to draw out an almond shape to my eyes in the tear duct area.
Wear-wise, these last all day with no smudging. Bear in mind that I'm now in fast-paced HK where I get to face humidity and air-con in equal measure all day and often have 18-hour days!
Paired with a tapered winged eyeliner look and lashings of mascara, this is all that my eye make-up consists of at the moment. One step closer to being in Apink and/or SNSD...
