The Differences Between a Tech-Savvy and Tech-Clueless Business Owner

By Lamamma @LAmamma1

Most people don’t realize just how important it is to understand the technologies that you use in your business. Regardless of if you run a home business or a popular startup, it’s vital that you look at how technology works in order to appreciate how it applies to your business, how it can change your business and how it can even shape the industry that you’re a part of.

Technology can be one of the most important things to keep in mind when growing your business and attempting to achieve success, but there are differences between a tech-savvy and tech-clueless business owner that need to be discussed to really put the issue into perspective.

Tech-savvy: Will outsource tech-related work

Most tech-savvy individuals understand just how much knowledge it takes to become proficient with things like computers or networking. That’s why they rely on business IT support services that specialize in important things like digital security, networking and cloud technology. It’s vital that you get professional help when it comes to your business’s technology.

Tech-clueless: Relies only on their team

Tech-clueless individuals overestimate their team’s ability or underestimate the importance of a task. That’s why their companies run slowly and inefficiently, but it’s also why their employees are overworked and frustrated by the way their business operates.

Tech-savvy: Understands what technology has a high return on investment

People that have a good understanding of technology will understand what it takes to get a high return on technological investments. They understand that different technologies suit different industries, and they know how expensive things like software can get despite there being completely usable free or cheaper alternatives.

Tech-clueless: Blindly follows technology trends

If you enter a business office full of iMac Pro computers, then you’re either in a high-end studio or have a clueless boss. Computers and technology should fit around the purpose that they’re intended for. No business owner should be purchasing technology on the basis that “everyone else is doing it” because it simply means you don’t know what you’re buying. It’s important to research your options and look at what fits your needs instead of trying to fit your work processes around technology you have no clue about.

Tech-savvy: Future-proofs their technology

Tech-savvy entrepreneurs know that it’s very important to focus on future technologies and not just pay high for current technology. It’s all about investing in future solutions and getting the most out of your tech.

Tech-clueless: Far too focused on the now

You’ll find that many tech-clueless business owners focus on paying large sums of money for things that are going to be outdated or simply don’t offer a very good value proposition. Again, this goes with the previous point of tech-clueless business owners blindly following technology trends that just don’t work out in the long run.

As you can see, business owners have varying degrees of understanding when it comes to technology and it’s vital that you look at how you can grasp the technologies you’re using in order to grow your business.
