The Conjuring (2013)

The ConjuringThe Conjuring is the latest horror movie from director James Wan.  Wan directed Insidious (2010) and the first Saw movie (by far my favorite of the series).  The movie is “based on a true story” of the scariest haunting experienced by Ed and Lorraine Warren.  The couple, a real-life demonologist and clairvoyant, tells the story they say was the most frightening of all their cases.

The disturbing events occurred when the Perron family moved into a farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island in 1971.  It didn’t take long before the haunting began.  After many disturbing, nightly events that always occurred at 3:07 am the family sought the help of the Warren couple.

Lorraine quickly notices a dark presence in the household.  The movie in my opinion takes off from there.  Although paced between breaks earlier in the film, the scares ratchet up for the climatic end.  The Conjuring is certainly not the scariest movie I’ve ever seen, but it definitely is one of the better horror movies in recent times.  If you are a fan of the genre I think you should go watch this movie.

I realized the other day that I’ve never watched a horror movie at the theaters; though I’ve seen plenty of horror movies.  I watched an interview with Patrick Wilson (Insidious), who plays Ed Warren, where he said the movie was stripped of gore so that it would earn a PG-13 rating.  The MPAA gave the film an “R” rating simply for “terror.”  That alone convinced me I needed to give the film a try.

If you scare very easily I don’t know if this movie is for you.  The young girls sitting behind me kept whispering how they couldn’t take anymore and decided to leave right as the movie was getting to its climax.

For those interesting, this is the official movie trailer:

My Grade: B

Have you seen the movie?

Do you want to watch it?
