The Cake That Grew into a Volcano. With Pictures.

By Yourfamilysurvivalcoach @shari_brewer

Have you ever done the chocolate-cake-in-a-mug thingy before?

Well, I hadn’t and to be honest it sounded almost too good to be true. I’d heard about it, read about it and today succumbed to it.

Ok, ok, before I go too much further … yes …. this was a slip from the no-sugar regime, hanging head in shame. BUT, it’s all back on course now

;)

You see, each Thursday at work, some colleagues and I run a Mum’s program ….. and we’re always after interesting and unewsual, noice, different things to do with the ladies.

We had access to the kitchens today and thought there’d be merit in making our own morning tea.

I googled and there appears to be a number of recipes for this type of treat. I picked a recipe from taste.com.au. It looked easy enough, with simple ingredients and straight forward instructions. Or not?  …. Maybe I  actually should have been a bit more wary when the recipe itself warns the baker not to be alarmed in Step 4 of the cooking procedure. The photos are certainly the proof in the pudding!

The pic above is everything all mixed together and ready to go. Mmmm looks awesome already, right? Getting to this point was really straightforward and simple. Time then to bung it in the microwave for a bit. Really, how hard can this cooking bizzo be?

The cake that grew into a volcano. With pictures.

WOW.

Okey-dokey. In hindsight, I certainly should have been alarmed, regardless of the warning.

“May rise over the top of the mug during cooking” … But don’t be alarmed?? Seriously? Is this unexpected chocolate explosion normal? I am right to be just a little bit alarmed, aren’t I? Please, reassure me here!

There is good news though at the end of this tale. Hooray! It is without reservation that I inform you taste in no way was related to appearance. The ugly duckling, exploding cake-in-a-mug was surprisingly rich, moist, fluffy and very bloody delicious. Now …. just to tweak the recipe for a fructose free, non-volcanic version! Do you have any suggestions or healthy variations on this?
