The Best Advice I've Ever Had

A chat about advice giving, advice taking and then not really taking any of that in at all. By Michelle Chai. I'm about to get all Mom on you guys, but today I'm talking advice on the blog. Despite what you might assume or what I might say, I'll confess that I'm notoriously stubborn, gullible and naive. A heady combination, some might say.
As a small child and the eldest of three kids trying to find her way in this world - what am I saying? I was 5. - I was relatively strong-headed and thought I had my parents wrapped around my little finger. Pokemon trading card decks and booster packs were bought for me weekly by Dad, Mum was in charge of replenishing my Tammy Girl wardrobe fortnightly... even my sister quickly became my personal butler. I was quite a nightmare, now that I've written it out and re-read it about four times!
But with all that in mind and with a TON of heartwarming advice from a bunch of you (like, seriously, go and hunt down Gem, Bee, Jade and Sarah if you have an 'issue'), I'm pondering the idea of 'The Best Advice You've Ever Had'. I think I'm tentatively going to go with "don't do it" because, yanno, I always go there and do it, no matter what advice I'm given.
Case en pointe:
  • "How about I just pack it all in, move to an unknown island and find some Wi-Fi?" (I haven't yet.)
  • "I think buying this McKenzie hoodie and the matching tracksuit bottoms will earn me some cool points." (Aged 14. I did. I still got bullied. I wonder why.)
  • "Can I wear purple glittery eyeshadow Mum?" (I did. I got detention.)
  • "Wow, this corduroy Von Dutch snapback will be a good look with flared jeans and a cropped top." (Aged 13. I did. I want to burn the photos.)
  • "I might buy those glow in the dark jelly shoes/Birkenstocks/pants/etc..." (I didn't.)
  • "The Metro gates are locked - maybe we should climb under?" (I did. A French gentleman assisted me to safety while I sacrificed all shreds of dignity.)
  • "I'll just pop out for 5 minutes without my umbrella, it won't rain." (It always does, who am I kidding? I live in England.)
  • "I think I'm in love with my best friend. Should I go there?" (I did. Don't do that.)
The moral of this story is I know exactly what's good for me and that you have my best interests at heart. But I'm going to do it my way first, fail at life and slip that story under my belt to share at a later date. Hey, you can't say I don't have entertainment value!
What's the best advice you've ever had?
