Textured Cardigans Are Trendy. But Are They Trendy For You?

Textured Cardigans are Trendy. But are They Trendy For You?A hot trend this fall is the textured cardigan.  Before you go out and splurge on one, read this to make sure that this trend is for you.  Just because something is trendy, or you find you’re attracted to it, does not mean that it is something that will be flattering for your physical characteristics.

To know if you can wear a textured cardigan we’re actually going to look at your facial features, not your body.  Your facial features tell a lot about what you can and cannot wear.  Things like prints as well as texture are best chosen by just looking in the bathroom mirror.

When it comes to choosing the best wardrobe items, the goal is to ultimately have the focus be on your face.  You never want someone who is looking at or listening to you to get caught up and distracted by your clothes.  When this happens, you will have to work twice as hard to be heard.

To determine how much texture you can wear, look at your hair and skin.  The more texture either of these features have, the more texture you can wear in your clothing.  You may notice that older women look great in more textured tops and jackets.  The reason is that they’re skin is usually slightly more textured and wrinkled.  Wearing texture in clothing when your skin has begun to wrinkle is like clothing botox, the texture minimizes look of wrinkles.  Conversely, fabrics without a lot of surface interest and fabrics with sheen can make wrinkles in the skin more prominent.  Shiny fabrics, in particular, cast a reflection and can make wrinkled skin look even more aged.

If you’re someone who has smooth hair and skin, too much texture can overpower you and work against the natural smoothness of your features.  As you can see in this photo, the jacket is nice and is flattering on her, but it also overpowers her a bit.  You notice the jacket, not necessarily her.  This is a huge selling tool in catalogs because, remember, catalogs aren’t selling the people, they’re selling the clothes.  In life, the opposite is true.

If you’re someone with smooth skin, yet textured hair, you get the best of both worlds and can go by personal preference.  Your textured hair allows you to wear nubbier and more textured fabrics, while your smoother skin looks great in flatter fabrics.

Now that you’ve decided if you can or can’t wear texture, here are some looks I put together using this season’s hot trend: The textured cardigan.

Wearing red jeans with a black and white cardigan is a great way to throw a pop of color into the look.  Just make sure you have the coloring to wear black and white together.  For more on this, click here.

Olive is a versatile color that can be popped with any accent color.  Here, I chose to tone it down with taupe, instead.

For a softer, more elegant look, a textured cardigan in oatmeal shades says ladylike fall, especially when paired with softer accessories.
