Tasting Tucson {Union Public House}

union-public-houseWhenever I get the craving for oysters, which is very often, I always go to Union Public House, the same place I’ll go to satisfy my Moscow Mule indulgences too.  Also, just found out that it opened up as a whiskey and cigar lounge bar, which I think is a pretty creative concept, especially since the roommate and I are whiskey girls. Union does its part to lead a sustainable business by using repurposed local American materials.

They have a social hour features eats and cocktails for 3, 4, 5, and 6 dollars. Their signature, and personal favorite, Moscow Mule.

This Mason Jar filled with House brined pickles and vegetables are salty sour sweet, crunchy treats and motivated us to do our own pickling.

Another dish we seems to always try at new restaurants is mussels. I’ll admit that I am a vegetarian that eats fish, and although I don’t eat the meat, I always try the mussels when Katie orders them because I appreciate the added component it adds to certain dishes. Who knows maybe I’ll incorporate some meat into my diet soon.

I am not shy about saying that oysters are by far one of my favorite foods, I mean I even have dreams about eating them in San Diego. The ones at Union are by far some of the best I’ve eaten in Arizona, delicious with their spicy horseradish root mignonette, house cocktail sauce, or my personal choice just a drizzle of fresh lemon juice. We felt the day required two orders of these.

I had the arugula salad, a great summer entrée topped with grilled seedless watermelon, pickled beet, brined feta, pomegranate seeds, and a jalapeno vinaigrette.
