Tarte's Newest Foundation - the Amazonian Colored Clay Liquid Foundation

By Makeupguineapig @MakeUpGuineaPig
Tarte has introduced yet another new Amazonian Clay product. It is the Amazonian Colored Clay Liquid Foundation. This is a liquid foundation that uses colored clays to provide color correction when applied to the skin. It is also supposed to be lightweight with full coverage and an SPF 15. Being a fan of both Tarte’s Powder Foundation and their prior Full Coverage Foundation, I am definitely intrigued! J So, how does this foundation stack up in the world of complexion perfectors? Let’s find out! J
Tarte's Newest Foundation - the Amazonian Colored Clay Liquid Foundation
The Amazonian Colored Clay Liquid Foundation is a water-based foundation that is described as having a full coverage satin finish. It uses multi-colored clays to help brighten and correct skin tone, and has a high percent of not only water, but also pigment. This makes for a lightweight, yet full coverage foundation. Because of this high concentration of water, the foundation is quite thin and runny, but it is by no means sheer due to the high percentage of pigment. The end result is a foundation that feels quite light on the skin, and provides a natural looking satin finish with medium to full coverage that is easily buildable without looking heavy or cakey. How can one foundation really be all those things?!?! J

Though I find the packaging a bit annoying, I really like this foundation! It really does feel light on the skin and applies almost like a tinted moisturizer, but with really great coverage! This is an amazing mixture of texture and pigment that actually does look like skin, while still providing virtually full coverage. Most full coverage foundations tend to look a bit heavy if not applied perfectly and they always seem to emphasize my pore size. This foundation glides on and blends with ease, and my pores look no different than when I wear a lightweight foundation, or even a tinted moisturizer! It also wears beautifully for hours on end. I wouldn't quite say it's waterproof, but I could be convinced that it is water-resistant. For a product this great, I can overlook the strange jar - which I'm actually getting used to anyway!

It has a satin finish that looks really natural. For drier skin types, this foundation is probably the best I have tried, because it does not stick to dry or flaky areas! I’ve had both dry and flaky skin recently, and this didn’t emphasize it at all! It doesn’t hide it, but it doesn’t draw attention to it like most foundations seem to. Since I have combination skin, I can also say that for oilier areas, though it does not mattify the skin and it does not prevent oil, it also does not make oiliness worse. With a little powder, skin looks natural and healthy. It’s pretty much the best of both worlds in terms of finish.

As far as coverage goes, as I’ve already stated, it is definitely a fuller coverage foundation. I would call it a full-medium coverage foundation that is buildable to quite full coverage. It doesn’t disguise all the red spots that I have, but it does as good of a job, if not better, than pretty much anything else I have used. When used with Tarte's new CC Primer (included in the QVC Set with this Foundation), the discoloration is a bit easier to disguise. The foundation alone actually disguised the circles under my eyes pretty nicely without any added concealer, although it did crease a bit over time. I think most people could probably get away with using this foundation as a concealer if they so choose.

Though this foundation has a fuller coverage, it definitely does not feel or look heavy. Because it is a water-based foundation, and one that uses quite a bit of water, it feels very light on the skin. It feels and looks much like a lightweight foundation with a sheer to light coverage. Though it will disguise some pretty serious discoloration, it still looks like skin! It also doesn’t seem to emphasize imperfections! Most full coverage foundations tend to kind of sit on top of my pores, making them look huge. If I really blend it in, the coverage disappears. Not so with the Colored Clay Liquid Foundation! It spreads over the skin with ease and blends like a dream. The foundation keeps skin looking and feeling like skin, while still camouflaging discoloration.

If I had any complaints, as I mentioned earlier, it would probably be the packaging. The foundation comes in a “tub” of sorts. It actually looks virtually identical to their powder foundation. There is a mesh screen over the product (you can’t see this once the foundation seeps through), which matches up with a protrusion on the lid…basically a stopper. It doesn’t seem that the product really travels much beyond this area, which is kind of amazing. It’s actually a rather logical design because the foundation is so thin that it has the potential to make quite a mess in a bottle or a tube. It is just very unfamiliar as far as a liquid foundation package goes and I think there’s a bit of a learning curve. It’s rather difficult to control the amount of product that is dispensed. It’s also not the easiest to use your fingers to apply the foundation, which is how I usually prefer to apply my foundation. Dipping a brush into the product on the mesh top seems kind of messy, and it’s a little difficult to control the amount of product placed onto the brush. Despite these rather minor hassles (which I'm learning how to work with as I use it more and more), what really matters is the product inside – and that is incredible!

I am really quite impressed with Tarte’s new Amazonian Colored Clay Liquid Foundation! It looks natural, feels nice on the skin, has great coverage, blends beautifully, and I could go on and on! It’s just a wonderfully natural-looking full coverage foundation. That’s an oxymoron if I ever saw one! J I would highly recommend this foundation to pretty much everyone! Do yourself a favor and pick up a tub!!! J

It’s actually a fantastic deal, even if you only want to try two or three products! The set is available in 5 shades – Fair, Light, Medium, Tan & Deep. If history is any indication, this shade range will probably increase once the product is available from other retailers.
