Taraji P. Henson has cut ties with her longtime manager Vincent Cirrincione after he was accused of sexual harassment, and now he has closed his company.
Taraji shared the news on her Instagram account:
“The news about my Manager Vincent Cirrincione has shocked, hurt, and offended and yet again put professional women in a position to not trust the men they work with. Everyone knows how difficult this Industry has been for women and my hope is that all of these unspeakable events ignite true change in the treatment of women in this entertainment business,” the actress wrote.
Cirrincione’s nine accusers (8 Black women and 1 Asian woman) told The Washington Post that he made unwanted sexual advances toward them from 1993 to 2011. Several of the women alleged that Cirrincione presented himself as a gatekeeper for black actresses in an industry notoriously difficult to break into — one whose path is even more narrow for minorities. They said he took advantage of that dynamic to prey upon young women of color seeking an entry into Hollywood, according to the article.
Three of the women say that he pushed for sex as a condition for representing them, and that he did not take them on when they refused. A fourth said he offered to help advance her career if she agreed to have sex with him monthly. A fifth actress said he masturbated in front of her in his office during the years he managed her.
Cirrincione in a statement to the Washington Post Monday, said that he has made the decision to close his management company after 40 years in business to protect the careers of the two dozen actors and actresses he represented.
“It is with incredibly great sadness at this time that I believe it’s in the best interest of all my actors and actresses that I represent to close my management company,” Cirrincione said. “This business is hard enough, and I don’t want to distract in any way from their careers or opportunities in the entertainment field. I wish all my clients the very best in all their endeavors.”
Cirrincione, also use to manage actress Halle Berry.
