Sutton United to Celebrate Diversity

Sutton United to celebrate diversityCongratulations to Sutton United football club who are celebrating ‘multicultural day’ on Saturday when the team take on Staines Town. The event is part of the Sutton Black History Month programme, which the club have posted on their website

The club website says:

The club is also taking the opportunity to engage with the Football Association’s ‘Let’s Kick Out Racism’ campaign and will be joining with its opponents for the day, Staines Town, to make a show of solidarity with a short pre-match presentation of flags celebrating ‘One Club, One Community’.

Sutton United’s match programme for the day will also include a fascinating anthology of the many black and Asian players who have represented the club over the years.

At Sutton our long established multicultural links reach thousands of miles to the West African state of The Gambia where you will find the village of Lamin, home to Sutton United FC (Gambia) or SUFCG to whom we are proud to be associated.

I am delighted the club are being so positive about diversity and promoting an anti-racist message, which comes at a time when ‘race rows’ are dominating the sports backpages.

The work of Sutton United and Carshalton Athletic in the community show what excellent and conscientious clubs we have in Sutton borough.

Let’s hope Sutton United continue their mini-revival in the league as well and extend their four-match unbeaten run. Something tells me Sutton striker and DJ Craig Dundas (pictured) will score a brace against the Staines massive!
