Surfer's Small Modern Backyard

Matt Jacobson and Kristopher Dukes's small house in Manhattan Beach, California, makes their extra bit of outdoor space—a 15-by-30-foot backyard—all the more critical. Along with the help of architect Michael Lee, they've outfitted the space in concrete, bamboo, ipe, and stones, alongside a modest suite of modern furnishings.

The fire pit, concrete pavers, and the ipe bench are custom designs. The planter isa 1970s design by La Gardo Tackett from Architectural Pottery, and hidden in the bamboo is a shower from Calazzo.
