Happy Sunday!

It has been a weird few weeks. The weather has been just odd. We have had good news and bad news, and the past few weeks have been an exercise in trying to figure out what the hell is going on these days.

Connor was accepted to his school district’s honor band this fall. This includes the top instrumentalists throughout the district coming together for one performance. Jim attended the concert and videotaped it for me, as Holly had dance and I had to work late. Jim said it was the best concert he has attended since Connor started band, and based on the recordings, I can believe it.

Holly competed in her third feis this past weekend and did really well yet again. She says Irish is not her favorite type of dance, but she is so darn good at it. I love watching her perform.

Jim and I are still above water with work. Jim’s problems are with old equipment and employees. Mine deal with budget deadlines and fitting in everything else. It has been an insane few weeks in that regard, and I can only hope that things settle down now that the first pass is finished.

My maternal grandparents have been in a nursing home for years; they turn 94 this year. My grandfather has been in and out of hospice more times than I can count during that time and we always figured he would be the first one to pass. However, a month or two ago, my grandmother was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. She passed away on the 17th. The truly odd thing is that my grandfather took a turn for the worse and slipped into a coma the day she died, before anyone told him the news. He passed away four days later. We have the double funeral tomorrow. The whole situation has been a bit surreal. After all, my entire family was convinced that they were both too stubborn to die. To make it even stranger, I was never close with either of them. My grandfather was not a nice person, and I never understood how my grandmother stuck by his side and moreover made herself subservient to him for so many years. I cannot mourn them, but I do feel a bit stunned by the fact that they are both gone. That and the pending double funeral have me more than a bit discombobulated these days.

Here are past posts from the few weeks in case you missed them the first time:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and is having a wonderful Sunday. Have a great week, and I’ll see you back here next week!
