Subscription Sunday | Spotify

By Katieemay @katieemay1
I have a bit of a thing for subscription services and as a result, I'm subscribed to quite a few different things. Every Sunday, I'm going to do a post on each service I'm subscribed to with the good and bad points :) Comment with your thoughts on these services too!
Subscription Sunday | Spotify
So this weeks subscription sunday is Spotify. Spotify is a music streaming service which you can access on your computer, tablet and smartphone and allows you to listen to any music you want. There are 3 different subscriptions which are;
  • Free - any songs you want for free on your computer (made possible through adverts which interrupt every 5 songs or so)
  • Unlimited - £4.99/month and you can listen on your computer without any adverts
  • Premium - £9.99/month and you can listen on any device without adverts and can download them so you can listen offline too
I am currently on the premium service however, because I'm a student in the UK, I get a 50% discount so I pay £4.99 a month which is a huge discount using my NUS card.
The GoodI don't know about you, but I spend a fortune of money on music, money I can't really afford which is why Spotify is so good. For £4.99 I can get as much music as I want and I do save money because some months I could be spending up to £50 on music, which is horrendous really...I should be saving it!Another good thing about the premium feature is that I can listen on my iPhone and iPad and download music to them. I find I download a lot of my music when I'm watching TV and I hear a song and then I download it or I'm bored and just sitting on iTunes and click. It's a bad habit I have. It takes away the temptation because I can do it for free, and legally. I can listen to Spotify anywhere and everywhere too, with or without internet! That's the biggest advantage of the premium service for me. I go through phases with music; some weeks I'm into rock, the next week musical theater and spotify allows me to feed my ever changing musical taste without the large price tag!
The BadI've been trying to think about bad things about Spotify, and I' struggling. An off-putting thing about it is the price of the premium service. I know I probably wouldn't have gone for it is I hadn't got the discount originally but now I've experienced it, I definitely would!
Head over to spotify.com to download the player FOR FREE and don't forget to subscribe to the selection box playlist which features all my songs of the week!
