🍡🍭Monthly box of Japanese snacks ❤️🍬

We were invited to review TokyoTreat, a box of Japanese goodies that is shipped directly from Japan to your home. Mrs Foodie didn't need to be asked twice!

So what exactly is TokyoTreat? It's a monthly subscription box of Japanese sweets, savoury snacks, drinks and maybe even a toy or keyring, which comes in three levels of subscription. The prices are $14.99 for mini, $24.99 for regular and $34.99 for premium. Shipping is included for each.

We reviewed May 2017's premium box below...

The TokyoTreat magazine has details of each of the month's goodies and includes information on Japanese culture. There is also a monthly giveaway and instructions (in English) for an enclosed DIY kit - we've come across a few of these before and some can be quite involved! Usually it's a selection of powders which you mix with water and stir individually in provided plastic pots and then assemble together once they have solidified. It can be a lot of work when you just want a quick snack!

Mrs Foodie loved the unusual kiwi jelly sweets (kiwi is such a lovely fruity flavour, why don't we get kiwi flavoured sweets in Britain!?), a new Pocky flavour - milk cocoa complete with Kumamon the bear on the packaging, and the two boxes of Kit Kat - despite bringing back around 20 flavours of Kit Kat from our trip to Japan last year both were new to us - we had baked butter cookie and cranberry, almond & rum sake! In case you aren't aware Kit Kat's are big business in Japan with a chain of stores dedicated to selling unique flavours, so much so that Nestle is opening a new factory to cater for Kit Kat demand!

The important thing with this subscription box is that although you can buy some of the more common Japanese treats in Asian supermarkets in the UK, TokyoTreat strives to find the more unusual stuff which isn't available, or is harder to find here, and as we discovered on our trip there last year, there is a massive selection of weird and wonderful sweets and snacks available in Japan! And of course it's delivered right to your door so you get a monthly present in the post!

For anyone obsessed by Japanese culture Tokyo Treats is a great way to discover something new, or munch on something that will bring back memories of past trips to the land of the rising sun.
