A High-Stakes Simulation Adventure Leaves Grayson Thibodeaux the Prime Suspect. . .for Murder   Deep in the gritty underbelly of New Orleans, psychologist Grayson Thibodeaux loses everything when his wife leaves him to climb her company’s corporate ladder. He buries himself in his job of creating mind-bending adventure games for businesses as team-building explorations. When his ex-wife’s company hires Grayson’s to create an elaborate game, he doesn’t see how things can get worse. Until she dies during the course of the game he created…making him the prime suspect for murder.

I saw that the book subject to today’s post, Stratagem by Robin Caroll, had been featured on several Christian book blogs prior to its release, so when the chance to read and review it on NetGalley, I jumped on it.  This was my first Robin Caroll book but it won’t be my last. It was interesting to read the note in the back of the book says Stratagem was crafted after the author watched Michael Douglas and Sean Penn in The Game.  I didn’t see that movie, but apparently this book borrows the basic idea of the movie (a living game), inserts its own characters and adds an additional twist, with themes of forgiveness and acceptance.  Quite interesting indeed.

Grayson Thibodeaux and his partner, Colton York, are designers of living games that help build team spirit and test a person’s ability to cope with difficulties or to face a demanding situation  Their game is used to determine a promotion in Thibodeaux’s ex-wife, Anna Belle’s firm, and she ends up dead.  Thanks to the messy divorce between Thibodeaux and his ex, he finds himself the main suspect.  This ultimately translates to the fact that Thibodeau must find the real culprit.

Strategem is a book that will hold your attention from cover to cover.  When the answers start coming to you, you’ll be asking yourself how you didn’t come to this conclusion yourself.  If you like a thriller mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you will want to read Stratagem.  An added plus to the interesting plot is the fact that there is a faith theme that is deeply moving.
