SS14 Bedroom Refresh

By Winyeemichelle
A self-confessed homebody with just a bit of a penchant for exploring and fantasy, my bedroom is currently a treasure trove of trinkets from across the world and snippets of my personality. Exactly two years ago, I moved home from my second home of Southampton and returned to a freshly painted and redecorated room, courtesy of two very bored parents.
And while I adored it and to an extent still do, things are getting a bit samey-samey, a bit too twee and cluttered for my liking. Yup, in true fickle Michelle style, it's time to revamp the bedroom and bring you along for the ride...

Interior and bedroom updates for the summer.
#1: Shades of Grey (and warm pastels)
So, the new color palette! It took me all of about 5 minutes to open up my Pinterest board and decide on my new color scheme for my room. Pushing pinks mostly aside, I'm opting for a shades of gray look, with that buttery mid slate gray as a focus, accented with lime greens, warm oyster pink, creams and duck egg blue. Bedsheet recommendations are welcome!

#2: Star Constellation Wall (inspired by A Beautiful Mess - of course)
I mentioned this decor idea in my Spring To-do List post a few weeks ago and a few of you were pretty curious! It's quite an ambitious decor idea to be honest...
I'm a huge night owl, often finding myself most inspired by the night sky, I adore midnight walks and even more so star-gazing (or attempting to), so I'm going to be painting one wall in a mid slate gray hue and stamping gold, rose gold and silver star constellations all over it. The strings of Polaroids and film photos - even my princess dress - are all coming down and being stashed away in photo albums, my Keep Calm print is going to be framed - all change for 'that' infamous wall!
#3: Prints Please!
Having spent two years haphazardly Blu-tacking things on my walls, I'm planning to keep things a little more minimal and streamlined upon room refresh. This little corner of my room is going to be stripped bare and replaced with a frame to house my Audrey Hepburn tear. I'm currently considering a small DIY magazine bunting banner to keep the wall fun.

#4: Minimal Mish
One of my favorite decor methods is little stacks of like-minded items. If you've even met me, you'll know that organised clutter is my 'thing'. But no more. My beautiful statement mirror is being put into storage and replaced with this Ikea number; my magazine collection is now being homed in my office downstairs; stacks of pretty books are going back in my (alphabetised) bookcase; and my jewelry collection is going in my wardrobe.
#5: Sentiments and Inspiration
Spend two minutes in my room and you'll realize that the whole debacle is a mishmash of sentimental bits and things to spark inspiration. My infamous pinboard is going to be sold (email me if you're interested!) and instead, the photos, tickets and memorabilia is going to be framed and propped up on my dressing table.
Have you recently redecorated a bedroom or other room? Share your posts and tips with me below! I'd love to hear from you. xo
PS. Don't fret about things going to waste -- most of my old decor is being put into storage for my future flat/house!
