Springboks v Eagles #RugbyWorldCup The Olympic Stadium in East London provides the stage for South Africa v United States this afternoon… The first South African side to play in London took on Kent on 3rd October 1906 at Rectory Field, Blackheath. Later that year – December 8th –  came the first meeting of England and South Africa on British. The teams battled out a 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace, South London.
The 1906/07 tour was the first South African rugby tour of Great Britain and also saw the coining of the nickname by which the South Africa rugby union team is known to this day: The Springboks.
This afternoon's fixture takes place at the Olympic Stadium here in London and the United States have twice been Olympic champions – in 1920 and 1924 the U.S took gold defeating the mighty France on both occasions.
