Spring Cleaning:Closet Session

By Sassysweetstyle @ChaniaB

I definitely have Spring Fever! I’m really trying to catch the Spring Cleaning Bug but it just hasn’t happened yet.  Have you started your Spring Cleaning?

I used to be extremely OCD until I had my daughter.  She is SO messy that I just had to let a lot of that go.  Plus when you’re in a hurry often & you have a child that is constantly getting into things, a lot of “normally organized” areas become chaotic FAST.  It makes my even more OCD husband cringe, but he’s getting used to it.  Thank goodness he LOVES to organize when it gets out of control!

When we bought our house, our furniture at the time (sleigh bed, dresser & armoire) just made our bedroom look so tiny & cluttered.  On top of that, we had these in a single unit in each closet.

We both have a lot of stuff & if you take away bulky furniture, where were we going to put it all? This was our solution.

TADA!

We made his & hers closets with inserts from Home Depot & have eliminated the need for a dresser completely.  I wish I had the storage space to take out my winter clothes so things weren’t so packed, but I don’t, so it is what it is.  I keep my inexpensive purses on top of the closet & hang my Coach & Michael Kors purses in bags on the hooks on the side along with any patent looking bags.  Yes I’m a nerd & color coordinated my clothes.  I’ve been doing it for years & it makes finding/putting away things SO much easier!

Organization Tips

  1. At least once a year, go through & pull out things that you don’t ever wear.  It can be extremely difficult to part with things, trust me I know! My rule is if I haven’t worn it in a year or so (except for Winter clothes) I take it out & find it a new home. It frees up space & makes room for new stuff!

  2. Every month or so I try to reorganize my shoes.  I almost need to do it daily because K is always pulling them out & trying them on, but for sanity purposes I stick to about once a month.
  3. Organize by color or style.  You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to find things!

What are your tips for keeping your closet organized?
