Sony Launches New Flagship Camera a99 II in India

Sony revives its Alpha SLT system with flagship 42-megapixel model, a99 II. The new flagship uses the company’s A mount.

The a99 II is a full featured camera with 42 mp sensor and can shoot at 12 fps at full resolution. The new hybrid autofocus system developed by Sony combines 399 on-sensor focal plane phase detection AF points with a standard phase detection system that features 79 cross type sensors. This results in a system that is both fast and accurate, which covers a very wide area of the viewfinder and which can operate at brightness levels of -4EV, claims Sony.

The new a99 II comes with a 8% smaller than the original ɑ99 and has a newly designed grip, magnesium alloy body, dual SD card slot and other upgrades.

Sony has developed a new sensor unit that uses backlit technology to maximize the amount of light getting to the pixels, and it replaces the aluminum wiring with copper to speed up the transmission. The Camera comes with an ISO range of 100-25600, expandable to ISO 50 – 102,400.

The XGA OLED Tru-finder has a ZEISS® T* Coating and has a four element lens group that includes a double-sided aspherical element while offering a powerful 0.78x magnification, delivering outstanding clarity from corner to corner. It also has a fluorine coating on the outer lens to prevent fingerprints, dust, water, oil and dirt from sticking, thus ensuring a clear view.

The video mode on a99 II offers full-sensor 4K and a Super-35mm mode that collects 1.8x the amount of information that 4K footage requires. Users will have built-in time code, S-log, picture profiles and no pixel binning, according to Sony.

The a99 II is expected to arrive in November and will cost Rs.249,990, and the package will come bundled with a high-Speed Class 10 SF-64UX2, a Micro HDMI Cable, and a carrying case.
