What To Do About Pet Odors

Try these methods to get rid of pet odors in your home.

Open The Windows

By opening the windows daily, you'll be letting fresh air into the house. This will help your home smell fresh, and combined with a nice fan that can circulate air, pet smells will be hardly noticeable.

Use An Air Freshener

Air fresheners can work wonders as a temporary solution. By spraying an air freshener around your furniture and on your floors, you'll be able to cover the smell of pet odors for 3 hours or so. Plug-in air fresheners can help mask pet odors as well, and in tandem with open windows and fresh airs, will help quite a bit.

Keep It Clean

The best solution for pet odors is simple: keep your house clean. Uphold a regular cleaning routine to keep pet odors out of your home. A good cleaning routine will include:

  • Vacuum the carpet daily.
  • Sweep and mop hard floors daily.
  • Wash pet bedding weekly.
  • Shampoo or steam clean your carpet monthly.
  • Clean any signs of urine and pet waste immediately.

Use Baking Soda

To effectively use baking soda to rid your home of pet odor, sprinkle it over the floors and over any smelly furniture. Let the baking soda sit overnight, and then vacuum it up the next morning. Just like that, there will be no more bad smell!

Keep Him Off The Furniture

If you have a dog, it might be tempting to let him on the furniture. As nice as it is to cuddle up on the couch with your dog, it usually causes pet odors to permeate throughout the house. To prevent this from happening, start saying "no" to your dog at a young age. When he tries to jump up on the couch, say "no" in an affirmative tone and clap your hands. Be sure that you don't yell or hit him. Before he's much older, he'll understand, and stop jumping on the furniture.

If you're looking for a way to prevent pet odors without stopping your dog from climbing on the furniture, consider laying down a blanket for him to lay on. This way, the blanket will absorb the odor. Just be sure to wash the blanket once a week to prevent the odor from spreading.

With these solutions, your house will start smelling better in no time! Are there any remedies that you frequently use to stop pet odors in your home? If so, feel free to share!
