Social Media, Networking and Peacebuilding, the Case of Young Moro Professionals of the Philippines

By Kaidarul @KaiDarul
Today, I was ecstatic. It seemed I woke up on the correct side of the bed. Later in the morning at the office, I was told that the Chancellor wanted me to witness Ms. Samira Gutoc-Tomawis as she will be talking about social media and social networking. He knows I am a blogger and that this is a very timely talk. I have all the social media accounts that can possibly come my way. And I personally think that this me-generation has gone to a point where we should be using the technology to voice out our sentiments about certain issues.
Actually, Ms Samira was here for the International Business Congress held at Sandbar Lepa Resort. She just extended some glad tidings in speaking before us this very crucial topic.

As Ms Gutoc is so awesome, it took two people, Chancellor Reyes and Sir Basil, to actually introduce her awesomeness to us. Not only she has a very outgoing and spontaneous aura, she was really exemplary as well. #fangirling And I think, no one is exaggerating on their testimony about her.

The talk included what social media, networking and peacebuilding is all about. From the dictionary-kind of meaning to what it really is. The talk went on with how we, as young and idealistic individuals, can put to use this social media in exuding the interest of the public.
The main point is that every line, sentence and statement that we make online is one way to shake those in power and make them do what is better like what had happened in the Arab Spring scenario. There is a dark side to the www and the internet, but if we only invest in the good side, we can achieve more than what we imagine.
I am a blogger. And I am doing everything each day to share what interests me and whatnots. Maybe, I am self-centered in most of my post, but the fact that I am doing something to lament my disapproval and to shout my agreeing to the current issues. Tho I don't really want to delve into the political side of things, I have to at least point out to the government or to the people that, "hey, I am not someone you can just put into your dumb list. I know what you are doing. And I am going to stop you and check you."
Social media is within the tips of our fingers. Let's make use of it especially if it can be of great help for the growth of our homeland.
Ms Samira pointed out that we must start with ourselves to be able to serve the community. If we cannot change ourselves, how will we be able to change a society?

And of course, the day would not close without a photo with her. ^__^ Again, thanks ma'am for the wonderful talk. I do hope you'd come back. And maybe I can stop shying away from your sahaya. haha.
