Sirao Flower Garden: The Little Amsterdam of Cebu

By Vanessa Kay @blushinggeek

Last week, my Aunt was in the city to process her PRC license and since she needs to wait for another 3 days to get it, she went gaga (I’m over exaggerated I know haha) and told me she wants to visit Temple of Leah. What does that mean to me? Well, I’m going to be her personal tour guide that’s it, haha.

Just as expected, she has no definite plan or whatsoever so me being the superhero, I created a plan for that said travel. It’s really nothing to fret about though since our budget was limited and so is our time, actually, it’s only mine. You see, we went there on a weekday so obviously I have work. So I created an itinerary good for only half a day.

I’ve visited Temple of Leah last December 2015 (I think?), so it was already deleted in my bucket list for Cebu travel. I’ve been hearing a lot of feedback and saw a lot of photos of the Sirao Flower Garden online (which is also called as the little Amsterdam of Cebu) online since last year and I’ve been dying to see it myself. So for our half day travel, I decided to insert Sirao Flower Garden and eventhough the flowers we’re mostly harvested already, I have to say that it was still a worthwhile travel.

Sirao Flower Garden is located at the uphill land of Barangay Sirao in Busay Cebu, so just like our experience at Osmeña Peak and Sergio Farm in Dalaguete we need to hire a habal-habal or motorcycle to reach the place.

It was a very pleasant ride actually so it only took us only 30 minutes to reach the place.

About Sirao Flower Garden

Sirao Flower Garden: The Little Amsterdam of Cebu

Dubbed as the mini -Amsterdam of Cebu, Sirao Flower Garden is one of the most visit attractions in Cebu. A huge part of the Garden is blooming with Celosia flowers which comes in yellow, fuschia, and orange; and is surprisingly creating a surreal landscape.

Eventhough there were some parts that was bare because they just harvested, you can’t deny the fact that the place is already gaining prominence with its vivid hues and incredible floral landscape that is to watch for in the Ber-months.

Location

Sirao Flower Garden is located in the cool uphill land of Barangay Sirao in Busay Cebu. Sirao Flower Garden is about 19 kilometers from Cebu City which is around 47 minutes travel time depending with the traffic.

How to get to Sirao Flower Garden?

There’s actually three options to go there; you can either commute using the not-so hard way (which I meant was riding a jeepney and then a motorcycle), commute the easy way (which is riding a taxi) or by using private vehicle.

The not-so hard way

  • From Cebu City, you need to ride a jeepney that is bound to Lahug, or any jeepneys that will pass JY Square Mall. Fare is only Php8.
  • And obviously, the drop off point would be the JY Square Mall.
  • From there, you will be flocked with motorcycle riders that will offer you to get to Sirao Flower Garden. If you’re good with haggling, please do. Usually, the fare would be Php150 one way which is a total of Php300 back and forth per person.
  • Go back the same way. They will absolutely wait for you.

The easy way

From Cebu City, hire a taxi going all the way to Sirao Flower Garden. They don’t usually use meter for this trip instead use your haggling skills and come to an agreed fixed rate. While reading other blogger’s posts, I found out that the usual fare costs around Php1,000 to Php1,500 roundtrip.

Via private vehicle

If you are driving directly to Sirao Flower Garden, let’s not make it difficult to the both of us shall we? Type in Sirao Flower Garden in your favorite navigation apps to guide you. Don’t worry, locals don’t bite so if ever you find yourself lost even with the help of your favorite navigation app, you can ask them around. And by the way, there are parking lots situated outside Sirao Flower Garden so it should not be hard to find a space for you.

What To See?

The Garden has a variety of plants grown everywhere like dahlia, sunflower, Mickey Mouse, cockscomb (the same family as celosia), China aster, everlasting, yellow bell, Guernsey Lily and petunia to accentuate the place with such vibrant colors.

While going down, your eyes are easily directed to the cute replica of wind mill to complete your Little Amsterdam experience.

Aside from some lovely flowers, the place also added some cute attractions where you can see people flocking for a picture or a selfie such as the heart shape signage, bicycles, Belen set, cute teddy bears, carriage, Greek-inspired gazebo and many more.

Travel Tips

  • For a more comfortable travel experience, especially if it’s drizzling the previous day, I highly recommend to wear comfortable footwear such as closed shoes or outdoor sandals.
  • Dispose your waste properly
  • Be considerate of other visitors and the owner. Respect others by avoiding loud voices and too much goofing around.
  • It is best to go there every weekdays in the morning to avoid the sea of crowd.
  • You can enjoy a little picnic with friends and family without food corkage fee. But for those who do not have their own provisions, you can stay and eat in their snack bar.
  • If you go there during Summer, make sure to bring some heat protectants such as cap, shades etc.
