Simple Steps to Take Care of Body Skin

By Jhilmil D Saha @jhilmildsaha

Our skin is the largest organ of our body, and just like how we care for other organs, we must also take care of our skin. Although we take care of our facial skin, we often end up neglecting the skin of our bodies. Taking care of our body's skin is a big part of stepping into an anti-ageing routine. Body parts like hands, thighs etc., show the first signs of aging quite prominently. While aging is a natural process and we should accept it gracefully, by following certain steps, we can maintain the health and glow of our skin and prevent premature aging. Here are some useful tips to take care of the skin of our body.

Simple Steps to take care of Body Skin

Exfoliating:
Just like our facial skin, our body skin, too, requires exfoliating. While physical exfoliators used to be a popular choice even a few years back, with the latest research in skin care, dermatologists and aestheticians have absolutely snubbed off its use, no matter what. And thanks to advancements in skincare, brands have innovated cleansers with exfoliating properties. According to dermatologists, if done daily on the body, chemical exfoliation is effective and has less chance of adverse effects, unlike on facial skin. Cleansers have a comparatively low concentration of exfoliating agents, like AHAs or BHAS. Thus, we can get mild exfoliation apart from cleansing.

Moisturizing: A moisturiser is an effective way of maintaining softer and smoother body skin. It is advised to apply the moisturizer on damp skin as it helps to retain moisture for a long time. Nowadays, we get a variety of good moisturizers, and we can choose as per our skin type. If someone suffers from back acne or acne on the arms, an oil-free moisturizer or a medicated anti-acne ointment is best applied.

Sun protection: It is good to see so many body lotions now have sun care properties because exposure to the sun can increase our chances of UV damage which is a major cause of skin cancer.  It is also advisable to wear covered dresses in summer and protect oneself with umbrellas. It is best to avoid sun exposure, but since it is often unavoidable, proper protection is better.

Stretch Marks: After a fat loss or pregnancy, we are left with stretch marks. It is entirely up to us whether we want to embrace those or we want to lighten them. If we target stretch marks, applying ointment with retinol or Tretinoin followed by hyaluronic acid will improve the situation. There are also specialized treatment oils and creams for stretch marks. However, it is best to consult a dermatologist if the situation is severe.

Targeted care: The skin of our hands and feet can become very dry. There are times when normal skincare products do not work in those areas. We need extremely moisturizing and emollient products to soften the skin of those parts. Often Occlusives like petroleum jelly work well to keep the skin soft. There are hand and feet masks too, and occasionally, we can indulge in that too.

So, these are the steps that we can follow to get nice and soft body skin.
