Show Your Dutch Pride by Rocking a #Twibbon

By Amsterdam City Tours

Yes, I said "Twibbon."

As in twitter + ribbon = twibbon.

There seems to be a twibbon for every occasion and every cause: marriage equality, Canadians living with cancer, freedom for Hassan Mostafa, and, the recent edition of the vlaggen voor de koning (flags for the king).

Why? Well, because the Netherlands will be getting it's first king in over 100 years on April 30 of this year.

On January 28th, Queen Beatrix announced that she would be abdicating the throne in favor of her son, Willem-Alexander. Her official resignation will take place on the last Queen's Day for the foreseeable future, April 30, 2013, followed by the investiture of King Willem-Alexander.

And now Dutchies, expats in the Netherlands, and anyone with strong Dutch ties -- alright, alright, ANYONE -- can show their support for the future king by rocking a twibbon on their Twitter profile picture.

Intrigued? Gotta have one? Here's what you do...

  1. Head on over to http://twibbon.com/support/vlaggen-voor-de-koning
  2. Click on "add to Twitter"
  3. You'll be asked to login to your Twitter account and approve the app.
  4. Then, like magic, a little orange circle with the Dutch flag running through the middle will appear in the lower right-hand corner of your Twitter profile picture, like so:

From there, Twibbon will hijack your Twitter account long enough to send a Tweet saying "The Netherlands will have a new King on April 30, so it's time to wave the Dutch flag with this #Twibbon!" with a link to the Twibbon search page.

If you want to be suuuuper cool, you can also add the twibbon to your Facebook profile photo.

So, just a fun little way to show your Dutch pride. Are you in?
