Show #040: 4AD Special - 1982

YtN&tM #040

Back again to 4AD for this week's playlist, and following on from my previous two 4AD specials, this time we have a track from every single and EP released by the label in 1982. Post-Punk was still the most apt description for the label's output during this period, but there were also a couple of surprise gems, as well as the debut of Cocteau Twins, Danny Ash's Tones On Tail and Colourbox.
'82 was not a prolific year as far as singles are concerned, so I also included two tracks from the Birthday Party/Lydia Lunch split mini LP "Drunk on the Pope's Blood"
  1. The Birthday Party - Pleasure Heads
  2. Tones On Tail - A Bigger Splash
  3. The Happy Family - Puritans
  4. In Camera - Apocalypse
  5. Modern English - Life in the Gladhouse
  6. Colin Newman - We Means, We Starts
  7. Rowland S Howard & Lydia Lunch - Some Velvet Morning
  8. Modern English - I Melt With You
  9. Cocteau Twins - Feathers-Oar-Blades
  10. Colourbox - Breakdown
  11. Lydia Lunch - The Agony is the Ecstacy
I was trying to think of a way of saying this without bragging, but Vaughan Oliver listened to this show as it went out, and complemented the show... which to me is justification (if justification were needed) that I must be doing something right! :)

Guest Mix

I've not had chance to listen to this all the way through, but a playlist of Eno covers has got to be worth a listen, don't you think?

Videos

A rather well crafted, fan created video for In Camera's 1980 EP track Fragments of Fear.

This lovely documentary, Autoluminescent,  celebrates the late Birthday Party guitarist Rowland Howard. If you have a couple of hours to spare, this is essential, sad but life affirming viewing!
