She Only Knows the Name You Gave Her.

By Rachel Rachelhagg @thehaggerty5

I just wanted to make sure she was okay. I had given her a coloring book to entertain her while I took a quick shower. Being all alone upstairs as her siblings were playing with the neighbors, I called for her. To ease my worried Momma’s mind.

” ADAH! Are you ok?!”

Silence.

” ADAH HARBOR, CAN YOU HEAR MOMMY?”

” HEY MOM! I’M IN HERE!”

unnamed (39)

It was then the Lord dropped a word on me that I needed to hear in a bad way.

” She only knows the name you gave her. Why would she have answered to another name? Why do you answer to other names other than what I have given you? You only answer to my beloved, my Rachel.”

But to all who have received him–those who believe in his name–he has given the right to become God’s children … (John 1:12).

I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me–and I in him–bears much fruit, because apart from me you can accomplish nothing (John 15:1, 5).

I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father (John 15:15).

He was right , of course that I was answering to names Satan calls me.

Unfit Mother

Unorganized

Failure

Lazy

Bad wife

Ugly

Broken

Callous

Worthless

Unsuccessful

The list could go on of things I have allowed him to call me.

When we prayed the salvation prayer, all those other names and sins fell away. We are a new creation.

To the widow, that’s not who you are. You’re his daughter.

To the recovering alcoholic, you are new. Don’t call yourself by that name.

To the divorced man, that’s not who you are. You are his son in who he is well pleased. Rise up.

To the hopeless, receive hope. You are his.

To the woman struggling with infertility, it does not define you. He will give you the desires of your heart.

To the abused, you are free. Call yourself loved.

Answer to your name, Beloved. Let the others fall away.
