Scotiabank has a neat Rewards Calculator detailing how the points can be earned and what they will amount to.
Some points to note:
- No fee waiver ($39) for the Scotiabank American Express Card or for the Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card ($399).
- The points are granted for the first $50,000 worth of purchases annually for the first two cards. For the Scotiabank Platinum, the limit is $100,000.. You earn 1 point for $1 after that.
- The bonus points are granted after the first purchase, which should be made within the first two months of the card’s activation.
- Redemptions are made for purchases made through the card.
- Redemptions should be made within twelve months of a travel-related purchase
- The points should be redeemed within 60 days of closure of the account.
Strengths of the Scotiabank American Express Cards
- Arguably, this is one of the best cards if you want to use points for travel, as it nets a 4-percent return.
- The 25-consecutive day (for under 65 and 10 consecutive-day for over 65) travel emergency insurance is great.
Weaknesses
- It cannot be transferred to other points systems, such as Aeroplan, which the American Express Gold Rewards Card allows.
- The Lounge access is not an exciting offer. The amount for individual visits, USD27, is no big deal as there are always online coupons that offer the same discount, without the need of the Scotiabank American Express card.
