You Sangria is such a versatile drink. Any wine ,any fruit any time and it's done...
It's a Spanish drink that was once made with oranges and lemons and red wine . But today , any wine and any fruit is added.
I love adding grapefruit because it's just a little bitter and just that right hint of bitter makes it like a tonic water.I generally add the fruit that no ones eating to a wine that no ones drinking.Such a perfect combination. So if a not so nice friend or relative brought a bottle or two of cheap wine, don't fret. I have ten perfect use for it. Even Port and Sherry taste awesome in a sangria.A single jug of Sangria, two people can happily partake of it.
For the
Sangria with Grapefruit and Strawberries
You need
1half grapefruit sliced thick and quartered
1 quarter green Granny Smith apple
6-8 strawberries
3 tbsp sugar
1 bottle club soda or ginger ale or Sprite or Limca
45 mils brandy
ice to chill
375 mils or half bottle red wine (any wine will do)
The fruit in all its glory. And treated well.Cut/Slice the fruit and place in a jug with the sugar. Muddle the fruit with a spoon or the end of a rolling pin or belan. Works perfectly when you are angry at the significant half....My significant half is totally not worth the rolling pin. He's a sweetheart. So it's the spoon for me.A little ,not pulverised fruit.Just so the wine will seep In and some juice will muddle with the wine.
Pour in the wine and brandy. That's cheap wine..so no pics of the wine bottle.Pop in the fridge to chill. Just before you serve your sangria, pop in some ice and club soda.
Spoon some fruit into a glass or mason jar or wine glass. Pour the sangria.
What a prefect way to use up the wine and fruit. Drink the wine and enjoy the reservatol for the Anti Aging benefits and then munch on the fruit for added health and fiber benefits.A beautiful way to start a Mediterranean Romantic meal. With a glass of sangria, a moonlit night and your significant other ,romance is sure to follow.
I know this is hardly baking...but alcohol is essential to baking and bakers.Right?
So what are you baking today???
