Samsung Flexible Roll Up Display

Nowadays, there are many innovations in display technology. Last month’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) event in Barcelona showcased a variety of innovative display technologies, from transparent to flexible, from multiple manufacturers. Now it appears that the popular smartphone brand Samsung (Samsung) is also working on a new flexible display, which can be rolled up or folded. The South Korean company has also filed a patent with the USPTO office for this particular display technology. How can this new roll-up display of Samsung, let’s know.

Samsung has developed a new flexible roll-up display

MySmartPrice has spotted a new patent at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). However, the patent does not clearly state whether it is a smartphone display, or a tablet or TV screen.

The drawings shown in the patent give a glimpse of how the screen works. The first image shows the screen rolled up. The next picture shows it slightly open. The latter shows the display fully open. The next two images show the screen fully open. The next two images also focus on the screen itself. A drawing shows the hinge. The next one shows the hinge from the side with the screen open. And the last picture shows the hinge with the device closed.

However, this is not Samsung’s first rollable display. Recently, a patent was filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which gives a glimpse of the cylindrical roller design of the display. In addition, the South Korean company is also said to be working on a third type of foldable smartphone with a dual-folding display. A few months ago, a Samsung device appeared on the WWIPO platform itself, indicating that the company is developing a smartphone with a screen that extends to the right.

But keep in mind, there is no chance of Samsung’s rollable display device coming to the market anytime soon. They often file patent applications for various innovative technologies. But just because they’re patented doesn’t mean the concept will become a commercial product in the future.
