Samsung Launches Gear S2 and Gear VR in India

Samsung had unveiled the Gear S2 at IFA Berlin last year. The smartwatch has been launched in phased manner in select countries for the past few months and has just landed in India along with the Gear VR headset.

The new Gear S2 smartwatch comes with a 1.2-inch screen with a 360x360resolution (302ppi). It comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor and has an option of 3G Connectivity. Them most unique thing about Gear S2 is that it runs on Samsung’s in house Tizen OS and uses a rotating bezel, along with the Home and Back buttons, for navigation. Samsung has also added NFC for mobile payments.

In terms of power support, the company claims it lasts up to 2-3 days on a single charge, so that you need not worrying about carrying another charger with you. The bezel on the body works as a rotating wheel that allows user to navigate through the device. Galaxy Gear come is 2 variants – Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. Only difference being size as the classic model is slightly smaller in size and lighter in weight as compared to the Gear S2.

The smartwatch also has a built-in heart rate sensor. The Samsung Gear S2 lets users access emails, notifications and messages. Samsung plans to make Gear S2 iOS compatible as well, however currently it just supports Android. Gear S2 will cost Rs.24,300 and Gear S2 Classic is priced at Rs 25,800, and they are available online on Flipkart as well as in offline retail stores like those of Croma and Reliance.

The Samsung Gear VR headset is powered by Oculus and lets users experience movies, shows in 3D. The Gear VR weighs 310 grams, 19 per cent lighter than the Innovator Edition launched earlier. It is compatible with Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 and S6 Edge. It is priced at Rs 8,200, however is available for Rs 7,690 on Flipkart.
