Samsung Galaxy S20 flagship smartphones announced

After introducing the Lite variants of their 2019 flagship devices, Samsung has now announced their first flagship phones of the current year at the Unpacked 2020 event. Continuing the trend, three devices are announced: the Samsung Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S20 Plus, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Each one of these caters to customers from three different price spectrum. The South Korean manufacturer has also announced their clamshell foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, at the same event.

Samsung Galaxy S20

With a 6.2-inch ( 3200×1440 pixels) display, it is the smallest of the three. 120 Hz refresh rate is supported. The primary camera is a triple lens setup ( 64 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP). The system is capable of 30x digital zoom and 3x hybrid-optic zoom. 8K video recording is supported. The front camera is housed in a punch-hole notch. The battery capacity is 4,000 mAh.

Depending on the region, the device will run on either Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 (which is the same as 9830) processor. Android 10, with Samsung One UI on top, will handle the software department. It is dust and water resistant, and supports wireless charging. The 4G variant starts with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage with an option to expand it via microSD card. A 5G variant is also available.

Galaxy S20 is also the cheapest of the lot, owing to the fact that there is no Galaxy S20e this time around. It is available in blue, grey, and pink color options. The price starts at $999 ( ₹71,400 approx.).

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus

The middle variant of the Galaxy S20 series comes with a 6.7-inch ( 3200×1440 pixels) display boasting a 120 Hz refresh rate. The rear camera setup is the same as that of its younger sibling, but with an additional time-of-flight sensor for calculating depth and distance. 8K video recording is supported. The selfie camera sits in a punch-hole. To support the bigger screen, the battery is bumped up to 4,500 mAh.

Depending on which part of the world you will purchase it from, the Galaxy S20 Plus will run on either Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990. One UI based on Android 10 is the operating system of choice. It is dust and water resistant, and offers wireless charging. A 5G variant is also available.

It is available in black, blue, and grey color variants. The price starts at $1,199 ( ₹85,700 approx.).

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

The top-end variant features a 6.9-inch ( 3200×1440 pixels) screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The primary camera is a triple lens setup ( 108 MP + 48 MP + 12 MP) along with a ToF sensor. The end result is 100x digital zoom and 10x hybrid-optic zoom. 8K video recording is supported. The secondary camera rests in a punch-hole. The battery capacity is 5,000 mAh.
