Here’s a touch of gold from Samsung to help Indian consumers celebrate the festive season. Yes, according to a press release that I got, Samsung has launched a brand new Android device today, 28 October, 2013. And along with being high on technology, the device is also high on fancy looks with its stylish folder design and golden color accent. The new Android, as you can guess, is called GALAXY Golden.

Speaking about the launch, Mr. Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Samsung Mobiles & IT, said, “At Samsung, we are committed to making  lives easier and smarter for our customers and GALAXY Golden does exactly that. With its innovative dual display and premium golden finish, GALAXY Golden brings together the best of touch and type experience on a smartphone. This specially crafted device is aimed at consumers seeking seamless integration of stunning classic design and functionality to make their lives more efficient.”

Here’s what the GALAXY Golden offers:

Design: GALAXY Golden is a Touch and Type flip phone with a  a folder style design that offers the users the convenience of two screens, and a physical keypad. To add to the premium feel of the phone, GALAXY Golden has been adorned with golden accent. It has black casing that has been accentuated with a golden finish. The back cover has a textured finish. Golden comes equipped with a ‘Hidden Receiver’ that enables users to receive calls without evening flipping the phone open.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Screen:  Both screens are 3.7” slim Super AMOLED screens. The outer screen provides the users with a quick way to use the phone’s calling functions. Flipping the phone open makes available the inner screen and the keypad.

Keypad: 3×4 physical keypad

Processor: 1.7 GHz dual-core processor

RAM: 1.5GB

OS: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Camera: 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.9-megapixel front camera

Storage: 16 GB internal memory

Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS/AGPS.

Price:  Rs. 51,900/-.

Well, personally, at this price, I’d much rather go for phones that have better hardware. GALAXY S4 or Note 3, for example. But of course, Golden has been designed keeping in mind a particular target market. And it will please many people for its premium or fancy looks, and the convenience and ease of use. Especially in this festive season, I think, a golden smartphone will sure appear as an attractive gift for someone special.
