The holidays are almost finishing, but the last lights brighten the short winter days : the Ephifany is now near. Every year the streets are decorated with Christmas lights: a sense of happiness comes over me like I was a child. Yes, unconsciously I'm happy.
In Salerno - a beautiful town in Campania, summer tourist destination, but also place of a great interest in the winter months- the Christmas lights become the true works of the art This charming town of Cilento or of the west Lucania, is surrounded by a natural contexts of a great importance. The down town is nice. When a friend of mine showed me the photos of the light-art works exposed, I was amazed by the beauty of these infrastructures. I will want personally see them next year. The event is now a tradition from November to January every year and it enlightens the heart of the winter in the city of Salerno.

The name of this exposure is Luci d’Artista and it is an opportunity to stroll up beside these works, the gastronomic events, the dance performances, the folk and the entertainment performances. The artists from different schools and trends are involved: they believe that the enlightenments are not just some simple decorations but the art works in the open air.Turinwas one of the first place for the exhibitions of this kind of art in Italy : a city pioneer of the artistic movement in Italy, that has offered the exhibition as an annual event to the mass, since the late 90'.
The ligh-art is an artistic movement recently released to the popular audience on the Italian scene, even if this artistic trend has been developed in Europe and all over the world of European and world (there is a festival dedicated to lighting installations as art works in Lyon in December every year). Turin - an important center of this trend of art in Italy- plays in the same time of Salerno an exhibition about the artistic installations.

Why you should visit these events? Because in addition to being emotionally involving and interesting, they are an expression of the contemporary art. Despite being part of the contemporary expressions which should therefore have a recent history, the light installations are already in vogue in Italy from several years: the exhibitions in Turin and in Salerno have now become the important dates. The best time to introduce the popular audience to this artistic expression are definitely the holiday season – the light-art does not have a season but it needs to be integrated with the urban environment where is proposed. During this time of the year the heart of each is more ready to please with the lights and the colours.
This artistic movement is thus introduced by Gisella Gellini in her book "Light Art in Italy 2010" (recommended to all lovers of contemporary art) "Once again, the light through the installations, presents itself as an indispensable element of the urban landscape at night to create or to transform the spaces; to give a new face to the buildings, the facades, the monuments; to give security, to show. The light makes known a different face of the city, highlighting the little-known aspects or radically changing the appearance of the colours, with a language that everyone understands, as intuitive feeling. "
Milan had hosted an exhibition at the Triennale in 2011, dedicated to the artistic movement. In any case, as any expression of the modernity, the light art is always becoming and changing : then we will see some incredible thinks in the next years. Le feste sono quasi in chiusura ma le ultime luci allietano ancora le giornate brevi invernali e la befana è oramai vicina. Ogni volta che le strade vengono addobbate con luci natalizie, un senso di felicità quasi fanciullesca mi pervade. Ebbene sì, inconsciamente sono felice. A Salerno, splendida cittadina in Campania, meta turistica estiva, ma di grande interesse anche nei mesi invernali, le luci natalizie diventano vere e proprie opere d’arte. Questa ridente cittadina del Cilento o , come viene anche chiamata, della Lucania occidentale, è circondata da contesti naturalistici di grande rilievo. Il centro è piacevole. Quando una mia amica mi mostrato le foto delle opere realizzate, sono rimasta stupita dalla bellezza di queste infrastrutture luminose e mi sono ripromesse che andrò personalmente a vederle il prossimo anno. La manifestazione, è oramai una tradizione che dura da Novembre a gennaio ed illumina il cuore dell’inverno nella città di Salerno. Il nome di questa esposizione ad aria aperta è Luci D’artista e sono un’occasione per affiancare queste opere a manifestazioni gastronomiche, di danza, folclore e intrattenimento. Vengono coinvolti artisti di diverse scuole e tendenze che credono che l’illuminazione non sia solo una semplice decorazione ma un’opera d’arte a cielo aperto. Fra le prime sedi delle manifestazioni espositive di questo genere di arte si deve ricordare la città di Torino, pioniera del movimento artistico in Italia che lo propose come evento annuale al grande pubblico dalla fine degli anni 90 in poi. La ligh-art è un movimento artistico recentemente divulgato al grande pubblico sulla scena italiana, per quanto la realtà artistica europea e mondiale abbiamo sviluppi notevoli ( a Lione ogni anno in dicembre c’è una festa dedicata alle installazioni luminose intese come arte). Torino importante polo espressivo di questa arte in Italia, svolge,in contemporanea a Salerno, una manifestazione espositiva di installazioni. Perché vistare queste manifestazioni? Perché oltre ad essere emotivamente coinvolgenti e di grande fascino, sono un’espressione dell’arte contemporanea. Pur facendo parte di espressioni di contemporaneità che quindi dovrebbero avere un vissuto storico recente, le installazioni luminose sono già in auge da anni in Italia e le esposizioni di Torino e Salerno sono diventate oramai un appuntamento immancabile. Il periodo migliore per poter presentare alle persone questa espressione artistica, che non ha una stagionalità ma necessita di integrarsi con l’ambiente urbano in cui si propone , sono sicuramente la festività natalizie. In questo periodo dell’anno il cuore di ognuno è maggiormente predisposto alle luci e colori. Questo movimento artistico viene così introdotto da Gisella Gellini nel suo libro “ Light Art in Italy 2010 “ ( suggerito a tutti gli appassionati di arte contemporanea) “Ancora una volta la luce, attraverso le installazioni, si presenta come l'elemento indispensabile del paesaggio urbano notturno per creare o trasformare spazi, per dare un volto nuovo a palazzi, facciate, monumenti, per dare sicurezza, per fare spettacolo: la luce fa conoscere un volto diverso della città, mettendone in risalto aspetti poco noti o cambiandone radicalmente l'aspetto con il colore, con un linguaggio che tutti capiscono, in quanto intuitivo e immediato." Milano aveva ospitato una esposizione alla Triennale nel 2011 interamente dedicata al movimento artistico. In ogni caso, come ogni espressione di contemporaneità, la light art è in divenire e quindi ne vedremo delle belle anche nei prossimi anni.
