«We met in 2016, when we were both working in Greece. There was an instant spark between us, when we got talking about our shared love of travel and adventure, and had a great summer living and working together exploring the beautiful Ionian islands. Our favorite spot being the small fishing village of Frikes on Ithaca, where we used to spend our days off. Ed popped the question in October 2021. He always knew that he wanted to propose back in Greece, the place where we met, but had to wait for the covid restrictions to be lifted before we were able to travel. I was so surprised when it happened on the beach in Kastos! I had a big birthday coming up and we were in the process of making plans to spend the weekend in London, I was convinced it would happen then so Ed did well to keep it a surprise. It was very romantic and emotional. Of course it was an instant Yes from me! Ed chose the engagement ring from a jewellers that I would walk past on my way to university a few years previous to our engagement. He didn’t know this until after he had proposed and I asked where the ring was from; but I would always stop and admire the rings in the window of that shop. He chose a timeless 3 stone oval diamond ring on a plain platinum band, it truly is a special piece of jewelry.», the bride shared with us.

From Ithaki Weddings: «Meeting when Cat was on a family summer sailing holiday where Ed was the flotilla skipper, their shared passion for the sea soon became a shared passion for each other. A passion which lead Cat to joining Ed for a summer season of flotilla sailing, days off were spent exploring islands within the Ionian – Ithaca soon became their favorite and when Ed proposed the only island they considered for their wedding. The ceremony and reception venue Myrtia, located on a mountainside overlooking Aflales Bay and across to Lefkada, down to Frikes and beyond. The unique restaurant and event venue ticked all the boxes for them – delicious unique dishes, stunning scenery and a relaxed vibe – perfect for their intimate wedding…The bridesmaids’ bouquets were a beautiful mix of soft white and pale pink roses, white lisianthus, coral chrysanthemums with pops of hot pink bougainvillea, the bridal bouquet along with the grooms buttonhole also included a beautiful white orchid. Their symbolic ceremony took place in front of a shady olive tree, either side gold stands with large floral arrangements, standing between which Cat & Ed exchanged their vows in front of their guests. Cocktails were enjoyed before guests were seated for dinner, feasting on traditional Greek dishes with a modern twist. Table décor was minimalistic with small vases of flowers and candles scattered along the length of the tables. Speeches were given at the end of dinner followed by Cat & Eds’ first dance and the cutting of the cake before the DJ upped the tempo kick starting the party.»

«We wanted a laid back, small, intimate wedding, and already knew that we wanted Poppy and Nec to host at their restaurant, but it turned out that they were in the process of building their brand new restaurant and cookery school ‘Myrtia’ that looked over the bay of Frikes where we used to spend our days off all those years ago. We went to visit the venue the October before our August wedding and we were blown away, and the venue wasn’t even finished at that point! The building was beautiful, the views were amazing and the food was of course incredible. It felt like a really special place to be tying the knot, and we really couldn’t think of doing it anywhere else.»

«We didn’t want the decor to take away from the already beautiful venue so we stuck to fairy lights, small floral arrangements for the main table, and two large floral arrangements that could be used for the ceremony area and to frame the top table during dinner….»

«My wedding dress is from Emily Bridal in Sheffield, UK the designer is All Who Wander, and the dress style is Lexus. I knew I wanted something simple, cool, comfy and something that suited the venue. I knew as soon as I saw the dress and the hanger that it was the one and couldn’t wait to try it on. As soon as I did, I couldn’t stop smiling and it was a very easy decision to say yes to the dress! The dress is made out of French silk tulle, has subtle embellishment around the waistband and a slit on the skirt too…»

«The flowers were mainly white roses with green foliage and pops of pink bougainvillea and local orange flowers. The white roses were a nod to the bride’s home county of Yorkshire, and the bougainvillea because it reminds us of Greece. Ed and I had an orchid in our bouquet/button hole as we just love that flower and was a bit different to the rest of the wedding party.»

The bride’s advice: «Don’t sweat the small stuff and give your family and friends little jobs to do to ease the load.»

«The best part of the wedding, was arriving at the venue after being slightly delayed, due to an almighty downpour of rain! It was such a relief to finally be there, walking down the aisle to Ed with all of our friends and family there too, in such a special place. We both felt like time stood still for a little while whilst we said our vows, it felt like it was just the two of us.»
