You guessed it. I hit the shops yesterday and came away with a few nice bits. After popping into River Island for what I called a 'browse' I ended up coming away with these babies. I couldn't pick a favorite. I first saw the leather skirt, which was one of few left. I had originally seen one at Fashion Union but sadly they only had one size left. I was gutted as it was a bargain at £18.00. However this River Island one looks great on and it's such a soft leather, I like the slightly longer length and the back and its really floaty with means it doesn't cling. It'll look great with a pair of tights and a top tucked in.
Then, strangely next to the skirt were these cute little tartan hotpants, and reduced from £25.00 to £15.00 they had 'buy me' written all over them, providing they fitted well, and fortunately they did. They will look great this autumn/winter with a chunky knit jumper and little boots. They would also be good for an evening look with some killer heels.
The pink jacquard top looked like a great alternative to all my t-shirts. As Autumn is clearly setting in, 3/4 length sleeves are the answer. This top comes in a variety of other colours (I am quite tempted into getting the dark grey), and it has this gorgeous floral design printed all over it. What I love is the subtleness of the design, and the material is so soft and cosy, perfect for snuggling up in as it gets colder.
Lastly the denim shirt. A classic denim shirt is a wardrobe must have, and even though I already have one, of course it wasn't as nice as this. I had been looking around for one slightly darker than mine, and that had buttons all the way up to the collar. What sold it to me was the metal collar cuffs and the fact that the buttons went all the way up to the top, but also it felt like proper denim as opposed to be soft and light. I am certainly one to embrace the double denim look so this will look great tucked into a pair of skinny jeans, or with a pair of leggings.
I did come away from the shops with a few other buys, but above are just a sneaky peek into my River Island purchases. They had some wonderful things yesterday. Autumn/Winter 12 seems to be revealing some interesting trends inc. leather, especially trousers, and leggings and jackets with pleather strips. I am in search of a pair of black leather trousers. I tried on a pair in River Island, but the fit wasn't good. I also tried on some gorgeous things in a couple of other shops which will be added to my wish list (all will be revealed). River Island never use to phase me, and their style wasn't quite what I would go for. I would find really unusual pieces, with lots of diamante's, chains and so on. Without being rude some bits use to be a little bit cheap and tacky. However they have really come into their own the last few years, and you can really pick up some individual and quirky pieces, and be sure that you are keeping up with trends. If you haven't looked at their website check it out here for some great Autumn/Winter must haves.
