Rights

Lately, there has been quite a controversy brewing. It seems Phil Roberts of top A&E show Duck Dynasty is, on the Liberals hit-list. In an interview, Roberts made reference to homosexual marriage being sinful according to the Word of God. After doing so, A&E took action via “the boot” –throwing Roberts off his own show. No sooner than the news hit media, Christians, Conservatives and the Tea Party circled the wagons -vowing to boycott A&E. Social sites are going crazy with, back-and-forth bickering about the First Amendment Right. Apparently there’s a conflict over who’s Right is whose.

The First Amendment Right, like all Rights, protect all Americans. Not just Liberals or Democrats!” Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” Nowhere does it say, “Only if everyone else agrees with you”, or, “Only if the Government lets you”. Simply put, if you don’t like what someone else says, you have the Right to say so. However, you cannot say, “Because you offended me, you lose your Right”.

America has turned having Rights into controversies. Today’s society and Government, challenge every Constitutional Right written –siting personal offense, or difference of opinion as just cause. These Rights are not negotiable! They cannot be taken away –unless we give them away! Where in history did this concept get lost? When did we, as a civil society, become so intolerant? Are we now so selfish, we care not about our fellow man’s Rights? So arrogant, everyone must agree with our values and way of life –or, change it? It appears so.

It’s sad: We have, or had, the perfect Country. A place of pride and dignity –a Country others wanted to emulate. A Free Land. A paradise for all types of people. Now, it’s a vast wasteland, entangled in conflict, hatred, and bigotry. Freedom is not free; you must pay the price by, letting others have the same freedoms you’re allotted. To do otherwise is, hypocritical, narcissistic, and ignorant. Live and let live! If you make other’s choices by taking their Rights, be ready to accept the consequences.
