Richard Levi Wins T20 Performance of the Year Award

Richard Levi fastest 100Richard Levi from South Africa has won ICC best player of the year award in T20. He played a marvelous innings against New Zealand in Auckland this year. In a February 2012 match newcomer Levi took Kiwi bowlers to task. He smashed 117 not out of just 51 balls. In Auckland knock Richard Levi broke Chris Gayle’s record for the wildest ton in international T20s. He consumed only 45 balls to cross the three figure mark.

Richard Levi was playing only his 2nd International match. He also holds record of most sixes in that T20 innings. Ball was smashed 13 times into the stands. South Africa won that match with a big margin.  They achieved target of 173 in just 16th over after losing only two wickets.

“I don’t remember much of the innings but I regularly get reminded of it, With T20 cricket it either comes off or it doesn’t and for me it came off that day. I’m looking forward to playing Sri Lanka when the ICC World Twenty20 gets underway. It’s very humbling to get this award.” Richard Levi said after collecting his award.

 The other contenders were Tillakaratne Dilshan,  Ajantha Mendis and Chris Gayle.
