Review: The Sayers Swindle by Victoria Abbott Description (from cover):
'Jordan Bingham is delighted to make money tracking down rare and valuable mystery novels for her employer, Vera Van Alst, an avid collector and the most difficult woman in Harrison Falls, New York. But now her boss' complete set of Dorothy Sayers is missing, and finding them may lead Jordan to a murder suitable for Sayers' esteemed sleuth, Lord Peter Wimsey...
When Jordan manages to locate her boss' missing books, they are in the possession of Randolph Adams, an elderly man in a nearby town. Offering a valuable Hemingway first edition as an incentive, Jordan thinks she's about to seal the deal--but some of Randolph's relatives think he should hold out for more.
Then the entire family disappears--and a dead body shows up. It's up to Jordan to collect the clues--and make sure a killer gets booked.'
My thoughts:
This is a mystery done right. I absolutely adored this one and was so glad that it was even better than the first one in this series, The Christie Curse. I absolute love Abbott's writing style and cannot get enough. As a book lover myself, obviously, I love book themed mysteries. Jordan specializes in hunting down rare editions of classic mysteries and it just make sense for her to be embroiled in her own mystery. This book has an abundance of mysterious characters and subplots that it simply was impossible to put down. I enjoyed the first book a lot and had a lot of high hopes for this one. I was not disappointed.
Jordan Bingham is a cozy character that the reader is sure to love. It is impossible not to like her and the reader can really relate to her. She is smart and humorous. I laughed out loud so many times at her antics that this is one thing that really sticks out in my mind about this book. I simply cannot rave enough about this book. This book has everything that I look for in a cozy mystery. Great and strong characters, a great storyline, lots of mysterious characters and suspects and just an great fun time reading it. This series is quickly becoming a favorite and I simply cannot wait to get my hands on the next release.
If you love books, mysteries and reading an enjoyable book, then I really think this is the book for you. You cannot go wrong with this one. I really hope that you guys get a chance to read this one soon and I would love to hear if you like it as much as I did. The writer does a superb job of creating a world that the reader can escape to for a little while. I would love to be in Jordan's place with all of her friends and family as they are just so quirky. And who couldn't love Ms. Van Alst? The woman everyone loves to hate? She is like a onion with many layers and the author does a fantastic job in portraying her orneriness. Fantastic and engaging novel that really sets the bar for cozy mysteries.
