Review: Not the Killing Type Lorna Barrett Description (from cover):
'New York Times bestselling author Lorna Barrett delivers another compulsively page-turning Booktown Mystery in which amateur sleuth and bookstore owner Tricia Miles gets caught up in a local election that turns lethal...
It's November in Stoneham, New Hampshire, and that means it's time for the Chamber of Commerce elections. The race is already a bit heated, as the long-standing Chamber president is being challenged by a former lover--Tricia's own sister, Angelica. Then local small business owner Stan Berry throws his hat in the ring.
Unfortunately, it's not there for long when he's found murdered in the Brookview Inn. The murder weapon is a brass letter opener belonging to the inn's receptionist. Tricia knows there's no way the receptionist is a killer. And when Angelica asks Tricia to help clear her name and win the election, she sees little choice except to start snooping.
She soon uncovers a ballot box full of lies and betrayals, and a chamber full of people who had grudges against the victim. But were they serious enough to lead to murder? And who truly had something to gain? Tricia will have to do some sleuthing before she pulls the lever on a killer...'
My thoughts:
I really enjoy this series and love returning to Stoneham with each new addition. I love these books just to catch up with the characters and know that I will get lost in the story. I absolutely adore Tricia and Angelica and love to read about their passion for books and for solving murders. Ginny is planning her wedding in this one and seeing that I really enjoy her character as well, it was a real treat. The mystery in this one didn't blow me away like the other ones in this series did. It was nothing special, but being able to return to Stoneham and visit old friends was well worth the read.
Tricia Miles is helping her sister Angelica with her campaign for President of the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce. When one of the candidates is found dead with an antique letter opener to the heart, Tricia has to step in and solve the murder to clear her sister's name. Everyone in town thinks that Tricia is a jinx because she is constantly stumbling over dead bodies. She feels that she has to be an advocate for her sister and clear her name, but she uses the guise of campaigning to cover her snooping. She has to watch her back or she might become the next victim.
I love this series and I enjoy them because of the genuine characters. This murder mystery wasn't all that special, but the ending promises more drama in store for small Stoneham and Tricia Miles. I can't wait to see what Barrett cooks up next for one of my favorite cozy mystery series. I am hoping that the next book focuses more of the mystery and less of Tricia's messed up love life. I don't understand why a lot of cozy mystery writers feel that they have to focus on that aspect as I would prefer to have more mystery and less romance. But oh well, can't win them all.
