Review: Laneige Sparkling Party Makeup Palette

By Beautifulbuns

I’m feeling particularly festive (even though it’s not Christmas yet) simply cos I’ve been noticing lots of bling and shine in each brand’s makeup collection. Hey, I’m not complaining – like how I never turn down animal preens, I also never turn down a blinged-up item. In fact, if I wasn’t worried about being STOMP-ed, I’d even dress up in full bling from head to toe to go out. Hah. I kid you not. Anyhoos, here’s the first (of many blings) I’ll be reviewing in the upcoming weeks -  I first said ‘hullloooo’ to this palette (or clutch, whatif you can call it that) at Laneige’s Christmas party a couple of weeks ago :D

Open~ sesame! It comes in a clutch-like box with a magnetic closure. I guess if you remove in the inner plastic tray and the booklet of instruction, you can also use it as a real clutch. Just be sure not to expose it to too much moisture/water, cos it might disintegrate – I mean, it is cardboard after all.

The set comes with 2 Water Drop Tints (in Neon Pink and Raspberry Pink), 2 nail glitters (in Pink Wine and Golden Bubble), as well as a shimmer eye dust duo (in Pink Dust and Gold Dust)

A rarity – Laneige doesn’t usually have nail polish products

Swatching it all on my arm for you – yes, even the nail polish was applied to my arm (and with no base coat hurhurhur)

 — SPARKLING DUST EYES —

Now I’m not usually one for sparkly eyeshadow – in fact, I’m not much of a fan of eyeshadows (until recently). I was pretty much inspired by the makeup techniques taught by Cat (Laneige’s MUA) at their workshop, which is why I’ve jumped on the eyeshadow bandwagon (like finallyyyy).

This duo of eye colours has a very special texture – it’s not full powder, nor is it full cream. It’s kinda like a hybrid of both. It has a very malleable texture, the sort you can poke with your finger and you can feel it sinking under the pressure of your finger. It doesn’t rebound back though. It glides on like a cream-powder consistency, and doesn’t need to “dry”. Plus, because of its slight cream consistency, it stays on the skin and there’s very minimal fall-off.

The Gold Dust is chunkier and the specks are larger, while the Pink Dust is finer-grained.

Applying a very small amount of light brown matte eyeshadow at the base (near the eyeliner), and then coating the entire eye socket with Pink Dust – isn’t the understated shimmer gorgeous?!

Ok, please forgive the wonky eye – I’ve mentioned previously that I have uneven double eyelids, and here, you can see how wonky it is. Anyhoos, the Gold Dust is distinctly larger in terms of specks, and is great for night-time or party events.  A light sprinkling is wearable for the day time, and if you layer it on (see photo below), it can really give you that beautiful gold sheen and coating.

— WATER DROP TINT —

Now I’ve previously reviewed this in a more subdued Rose Mauve shade, so these two brightly-coloured ones make a good addition to my collection :D They come in a very convenient tiny little size (but it will defo give you mileage – it’s not those 5-10x usage types).

Surprisingly, although I was drawn to the Neon Pink at first sight, it was the Raspberry Pink tint that I took to more. The color is richer and deeper, and helps to cover more of the fine lines. Both do give that beautiful glossy just-bitten effect though – I applied no lip balm whatsoever in the photos above.

Overall, for $45, it makes a pretty good gift in terms of value for money. You’ll get 2 eye colours, 2 Water Drop Tints, and 2 nail polishes.  I’m particularly happy with the Pink Dust cos it gives that lovely Korean pink eyeshadow finish without resulting in puffy-looking eyes. Why, you don’t even have to wrap it cos it already comes in such a pretty packaging. If that doesn’t convince you, perhaps the below photo of Song Hye Gyo looking ridiculously gorgeous will.
