KATE WINTERS HAS WON IMMORTALITY.
BUT IF SHE WANTS A LIFE WITH HENRY IN THE UNDERWORLD, SHE'LL HAVE TO FIGHT FOR IT.
Becoming immortal wasn't supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she's as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he's becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate's coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.
As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.
Henry's first wife, Persephone.
Goddess Interrupted starts off right where Goddess Test ends. Kate and Henry are now married, but Henry is still as distant as ever. I have to admit, I wasn't too thrilled with their relationship at this point. I really loved Henry in Goddess Test, but he lost some points in my book by this one. The story is definitely more exciting than the first, with Henry being kidnapped and Kate on a mission to save him. I loved how the characters developed throughout the story and I loved getting to see the Underworld, I can't wait to see what's going to happen next!
Kate definitely grows stronger in this installment, but her relationship with Henry is incredibly rocky. There were times when I could relate so well to Kate, having gone through some of the same things in my personal relationship, that I just wanted to slap Henry and make him realize what an amazing girl he has right in front of him. I'll admit, there was a time in my relationship where I felt like I was the only one trying, and where I didn't feel like my concerns were being listened to, which is a heartbreaking experience if you ever have to go through it. Kate's situation touched so close to home, I related so well to her, but I also admired her unwillingness to give up. When you truly love someone, you do everything in your power to hold on to them until the last minute and she really does that. Albeit, seeing Persephone step into the picture did not ease my hesitations, I genuinely disliked the girl. She's incredibly shallow and just plain unpleasant.
The story itself has a lot going on, and it's great to see Kate step up and be the hero for once. The descriptions of the Underworld are amazing, changing from person to person, and Carter really takes you into a world that is both descriptive as well as mysterious. I was definitely hooked from the beginning, not really expecting what was coming. By the end I was completely satisfied until the biggest cliff hanger of my life came out of left field!! I was NOT expecting it whatsoever and now I'm DYING to get my hands on the final book!!
Goddess Interrupted isn't just a middle novel in a trilogy. It's a story all its own that showcases an amazing world that could very well be real. The myth of Persephone has always intrigued me, and seeing more mythology play into the lore of Hades is definitely a plus. I enjoyed seeing the way Kate and Henry's relationship dealt with dysfunction and I definitely loved seeing Kate grow so much as a person, as well as a wife. I am definitely hooked on this series and I cannot wait to find out how it's all going to end! Fans of mythology, romance, and fantasy will love this one!
