I’m a newly converted fan of Fresh skincare products (not so much a fan of their pricing). Their products work well, and give amayzzzzing results ( I LOVE the Black Tea Mask). In fact, I’m quite happy to have found another skincare brand that works well for my skin, and I can apply away without fear of (outbreak) repercussion.

I say…
Looks like the East (Korean skincare) and West (Fresh) have something in common – this, like all the other “first care” essences and “treatment essences”, also comes in a heavy glass bottle. Please somebardy enlighten me once and for all – whyyyy the glass bottle?
- The only consolation is that since it’s meant to be applied as the first step, your hands won’t be greasy from the multitude of products used beforehand.
- It also a tiny little opening to dispense the Toner, but I’m having a little more difficulty (vs the others, say the Nature Republic The First Essence, Hera Cell Essence, IOPE Bio conditioning Essence etc).
- The opening just seems a couple of mm smaller, making me shake a lot more + vigourously to get it out. Well, I guess a little arm exercise never hurt anyone – I’m just afraid it’ll slip outta my grasp and crash onto the floor with an almighty “DAFUGGGG MOTHER OF BANANA HAMMOCKS” (that’s not the glass breaking; that’s my potty mouth at work hah).
- The recommended usage (from their trainer at the launch event) is to soak a cotton pad thoroughly and then wipe it across your face with gentle motions.
- Now the scent – how can I put this… it’s not exactly the most fragrant. It’s vaguely slightly sour (fermented citrus) with some herby (black tea) scent. I’m not fussed about it , but I’m more of a perk-me-up refreshing scent type of person. This is more of a wind-down-at-the-end-of-the-day type of scent.
- The liquid is milky, cloudy, lightweight and watery.
- It spreads easily on the skin (well, it drips actually).
- It leaves my skin feeling softer (but not smoother), which is okay cos it seems to be more of a hydration product anyway.
- There’s a very, very, very eensy weensy bit of sticky after-feel (compared to the others I’ve tried), but it’s nothing major; it’s just something I realised when comparing.
- Eventually, it dries completely to leave your skin feeling more supple – a little more boing boing in the skin ya’know.
- It contains a host of ingredients that are meant to ward off environmental factors as well, so remember to sweep it across your neck too.
- After a couple of weeks of use, I find my skin feel more hydrated (which is super essential since I’ve been taking antibiotics for my wisdom tooth surgery).
- I haven’t had any outbreaks, not a single spot, no sirree.
- It also helped/increased my skin fairness ever so slightly. I also have the same amount of radiance – which is saying something, since I’m so doped up on meds. I should be looking zombie-like! This means that the product is helping me look lively.
Now, it retails on the Fresh site for US$48 (approx SGD$60), so the price is also on par with its Korean counterparts. Overall, it’s actually a pretty decent product. I just wish it smelled a little different , cos then I’d have given it the full-steam Hogwarts express go-ahead.
