During my crazy weekend as Maid Of Honour for the BFF’s wedding, I had to take on all the tasks for the day – this included being personal butler, head coordinator for all her 14 bridesmaids (yes she had that many), PR liaison for the Straits Times photographer who came down to cover her wedding cos it had a charitable cause, and also makeup artist / makeup provider for the other bridesmaids (among the 10 million other things I had to do). These lipsticks were among the ginormous stash I brought along in my little suitcase.
Esprique Bright Lasting Rouge
This season’s new colours – OR291, PK891 and RO690
I’ve already
reviewed this range of lipsticks previously (but in different colours), so this is more of a swatch post than an actual review.
OR291: This is a pink-tinged orange-coral colour, and is actually slightly similar to
YSL’s Rouge Volupte in shade 33 Rose Neillia. However, this one is richer and creamier, while YSL’s Rose Neillia is more hydrating and has higher shine and gloss. The color is a cheery bright one, and is actually suitable for those who are venturing into the orange-tinged lipstick realm for the first time. One layer gives a sheer tint that can actually reveal some of the fine lines, but pile on more layers and you’ll see a plumping effect.
PK891: This is a blue-tinged fuchsia pink. One layer isn’t enough to cover the lips properly (as you can see in the photo – the fine lines of the lips are emphasised), but two layers or more will be perfect. Same as the OR291, you’ll get a better plumping effect with more layers.
RD690: Now although this seems the darkest and richest of the bunch, it’s actually surprisingly not that intense. One layer gives a sheer pink tint while applying several layers just makes it a rich cherry deep pink. Although it’s the same range, this one somehow seems a little more moisturising / has higher shine than the other two.
Overall: Esprique lipsticks are pretty decent for their pricing (about $39 each) and give a good color intensity as well as hydration. I also like that when they wear off, they leave no residue and do not cling onto the dried chapped portions of the lips.
