Review: Dr Hauschka Rhythmic Night Conditioner

By Lisagray @juicysatsuma
I’ve heard many people complain about the Dr Hauschka skin care routine because they don’t like the idea of not putting any moisturisers or serums on their face at night time. Dr Hauschka believe that the skin should be left to it’s own devices at night time so that it can repair and replenish itself naturally while you sleep. Personally I don’t like overloading my skin with too many products as this tends to cause breakouts for me. The idea of not putting moisturiser on my face at night doesn’t alarm me at all, however while trying out the Dr Hauschka skin care regime I have found that there is a settling in period where the skin feels tight and a bit uncomfortable after cleansing and toning at night.
Enter Rhythmic Night Conditioner*...This product is applied at night after cleansing and in place of your usual toner and moisturiser. The idea behind the product is that it rebalances the skin, whether your skin is too oily or too dry. This makes it an ideal product to use when you are moving on to the Dr Hauschka skin care routine and are concerned about foregoing moisturiser at night time.
It is recommended that you complete a 30 day course of Rhythmic Night Conditioner once per year for every ten years of your life. I’m in my 20s, so for me it would be twice a year. Dr Hauschka also recommend this product any time you feel your skin is not it’s usual self, for example after a period of illness or stress.

I’ve commented before about how Dr Hauschka products remind me of prescription skin treatments with their glass bottles and medical looking labelling. Rhythmic Night Conditioner is no exception.

Review: Dr Hauschka Rhythmic Night ConditionerEach box contains 30 ampoules which remind me of the super hydrating eye drops I was prescribed after my laser eye surgery, and the resemblance doesn’t stop there. I was expecting these strange little pods to contain a serum type substance but instead what’s inside looks like water (like eye drops) and when I applied it to my face it tasted and smelt salty (again, like eye drops)! So, did the treatment work for me? The honest answer is yes and no. It did help ease my skin into a routine of not using moisturiser at night. It eliminated that tight feeling which most of us get after cleansing, and which we would usually ease with a good dollop of moisturiser or thick night serum. Unfortunately though, despite sticking with the treatment for 30 days, I do not feel that my skin is better balanced. I have very oily, problem skin and while I do believe that this treatment could help other people, it just wasn’t right for me.
This treatment costs £44.95 but if I were going to spend that amount of money on an occasional treatment I would lean towards one Dr Hauschka’s Intensive Treatments which cost £48.45. They seem more appropriate for the condition my skin is currently in.
What do we all think of no moisturiser at night time? Does it make sense to let your skin do it’s own thing for a few hours? Or is this just madness?
