REVIEW: Aspire – Make Your Move EP“Tell me who do I put trust in when nobody’s got faith in me?”

Toronto pop punk newcomers Aspire released their second EP this week, titled Make Your Move. Following 2013’s We Stay Golden Forever, the Toronto rockers expertly combine electro-tinged pop punk with hip-hop in their sophomore EP release.

The EP, released via Alternative Empire Records, is an ambitious release that sounds more like a sampler off a more established band’s forthcoming LP than a group of up-and-comers. Tackling moving on and moving up, Make Your Move is personal, but not invasive. “Take flight and never look back,” is one of the many messages sprinkled throughout the release. Those who got familiar with Aspire’s 2013 debut will recognize the third track, “WSGF”, reworked with a new verse with rapper JWalk, which breathes new life into the song.

Though short, the ambitious newcomers’ EP is perhaps one of the strongest releases of the year so far.
