Restaurant Review: Harvest on Hudson
On Wednesday I dropped my son off at camp for the summer.  That day used to be such a sad one for ~ crying about how much I'd miss him, worrying if he'd be happy, make friends, learn a new sport...if you've ever sent a child to summer camp you understand.  This year, his fifth summer, I smiled knowing he was in one of his most favorite places on earth and gave him a hug and kiss and said I'd write daily and see him soon.
Restaurant Review: Harvest on HudsonI had to head to a program with a colleague in Nyack in which we mentor (he was also doing the camp drop-off thing), so on the way back from the program, he and I, along with our spouses, got together for a delicious dinner with a stunning backdrop of the Hudson river at Harvest on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
It was a simply beautiful, quintessential summer day so we first sat along the lawn to the water, amidst the manicured herb garden and ordered cocktails and talked about what we'd do this summer while our kids were away.  My cocktail was called
Blackberry Fields, a not too sweet blend of Absolut, St. Germain elderflower liqueur and muddled blackberries.  My friend had wine and his wife, a limoncello martini...
When it was time for our reservation we moved to a different outdoor table and enjoyed a great meal al fresco.  The menu is expansive (and a bit expensive) and they are still willing to adapt to any dietary request.
Restaurant Review: Harvest on HudsonI had just devoured some of their crusty sourdough with olive oil so I avoided the pastas and flat bread pizzas and instead enjoyed gently sauteed hen of woods mushrooms and a really refreshing salad of cucumber, tomato, walnuts and dates!  I was told the green and yellow pole bean salad was worth trying but I had no room.  Well, I had enough room to try my husband's spaghetti with crushed pistachios in olive oil. I seriously need to replicate that recipe (though they called for parmesan.)
Did I mention we stayed long enough to watch the sunset? With the big wall of windows in the dining room itself, you can enjoy that view even in winter, just from a different seat.
