GETTING SUMMER FIT – RACE FOR LIFE

Since my last Race for Life post (4 weeks ago), my fitness has definitely improved which I am so happy about, and so has my diet! ( I have lost 7 pounds)

My mileage has increased and my pace per mile, however these past 2-3 weeks I have been suffering from a pain in my right leg (Only when I run). I  had this before the ST.Davids 10k in 2012, so I must be doing something wrong?

These past 2 -3 weeks I have changed my training and eased of the running and done some different fitness work. I have also invested in a foam roller, but I am now thinking only a sports massage will fix this.

MY TRAINING

22nd April -

After writing about my Race for Life run on my blog I decided I needed to up my game and work harder.

I started the week with a 4 mile run and walk with my Race for Life partner, and we also did a 3 mile run and swim, (It is so much better working out with someone).

I also went to the gym twice where I completed a 2 mile run and some weights.

29th April -

This week I only managed two runs, but one was a 3 mile, and the second was a 4.5 mile run.

I was so happy after the 4.5 mile run, it was tough as it was outside and it wasnt flat, but the weather was great and the view was amazing. I ran with my boyfriends mum, so she was a good motivator.

6th May -

This was the week where my leg started playing up, I went for a run and managed just over 12 minutes before the shooting pain began. Because I have had it before I knew I had to stop.

For the rest of the week I just went on the Bike and did some weights, finishing the week with a workout with my friend who is very fit from her PT sessions, (Very jealous).

13th May -

Up until now my weight training didn’t really have a routine, I just did whatever I fancied, but as I was home for the week and had no gym membership I made use of my mum’s kettlebells.

This was the first time I have ever used them, and really enjoyed it. I put a routine on YouTube and just followed what the person said to do. ( I was extremely sweaty – which is what you want).

I did this three times this week, and then finished the week of with a training session with another friend who is super fit and training to be a PT, so that was fun!

It’s always better to train with a friend (Especially when they know what they are doing) as you can motivate each other, train and still have a chat!

I am now very keen to start doing some more HIIT, which is fat burning rather than just running at a steady pace.

I signed up for this run, not just to raise money for a great cause but to also get summer fit, and I am slowly getting there! It is only 5 weeks now until the Race itself, so my next update will be then!

I am stepping up my game this week, so fingers crossed it will be more than 7 pounds I loose by the race.
